If you're really Type-A and want to know what exactly your assignmentsgrades are, then avoid her. But she's a really good person, roots for her students, and gives the benefit of the doubt. Basically it's disorganized, but if you try hard you'll do well.

It is very clear that Dr. Kutchins is passionate about both poetry and teaching. I loved her class. She created a very comfortable environment, and her assignments were more like guidelines. She seems to love every poem for what it is but also has great suggestions to make each poem better.

One of the best. Kutchin's class is stimulating, creative, and fun. She created a class room enviornment where everyone felt comfrotable sharing their personal thoughts and poems. highly recommend.

She has good ideas for people who don't have ideas for poems, but stifles creativity by forcing assignments. Poetry is about unrestricted writing and we have restricted writing every week! =( Other than that, she's good, but a little too overzealous sometimes.

not a good teacher at all. very sweet, but too nice to even correct people who are wrong in class. i didn't feel like i learned that much, and her grading of poetry doesn't make sense. take facknitz for poetry instead.

Perhaps the best professor I had while at JMU. She located a creative center in me that I never knew existed, and by the end of the semester, I'd compiled a rather decent collection of poetry. I continue to practice and write almost daily.

Stifling of creativity would be the last phrase I would use to describe her. This class is really interesting and provides a nice switch from normal, more rigid classes. Class kind of self-motivated; she's very nice, and develops a very open classroom. Learned a lot and got to know my class! Awesome experience- really enjoyed; highly recommend!

This is the best class I have ever taken. Laurie is such a great teacher, is very passionate about teaching and about poetry- she knows how to pull things out of you that you did not know were there. please do yourself a favor and take this class.

She's amazing. Helps so much with your writing in any form. Very spacey and honest. Nice with her criticism and enjoys to hear your feelings on things. Wonderful woman, wish i could take her all the time. Had her for poetry and helped me tremendously.
