i liked him. he was a good teacher. sometimes funny during class which is good. doesnt review much for exams but tells you what you need to know, all you have to do is ask. quizzes and tests are pretty predictable. good class, take him if you can

He is too smart for his own good. He only does examples and doesn't explain anything. If someone asks a question and it's not on he work sheet of the problem he just doesn't answer the question.

great prof, his lectures are incredibly useful, so if you're skipping class it's really hard, but little effort needs to be put into the class if you attend lecture because he is that good.

The class itself isnt too hard its basically EMCH 13 with a little more. Friedman is a pretty good professor, not the best i've had, but better than most EMCH. He uses PowerPoint for concepts and does examples on the board. Its hard to say how good he actually is considering the class itself, but he seems like a good teacher with a sense of humor.

Comment:
Friedman was by far the best professor I've had thus far. He was excited about the material and made class very enjoyable. He does not dumb down the lectures, and homeworks (which aren't graded) are significantly more difficult than the exam problems, but if you even try the homework, you're gold. I would take a class with him any chance I get.

If you are one of the unlucky ones to get him as your professor, then it is not worth going to class. I did not go to any of the classes after the first test because it is worthless. If you do the homework and read the book you will be fine.

I personally did not like him. I didn't attend class much because I didn't benefit from it. He always seemed rushed during lecture. He wasn't good but he wasn't terrible either.

Comment:
He spends a lot of class time on proofs, but always adds in a few examples. Some of the homework problems are HARD. Some of them are easy. The tests however, test the concepts and are very straightforward. As a non-Schreyer's student, I will only need a B or B- on the final for an A in the class, because it isn't that hard.

Ignore whatever the kids have to say about "too much time on proofs". Plug-and-chug problems are for people who don't intend to be engineering leaders. Friedman makes you understand where the engineering is coming from, which is critical for higher-level courses.

Quite possibly the worst prof ever. He talked about things that were unrelated to class and when he did try to teach us something he made no sense in doing that either. If it weren't for good TA's and help sessions it would have been ugly. Avoid him...

Horribly boring lectures. Spent all classes doing proofs, and rarely did examples from homework. Too smart to teach - he should just stay in research.
