I don't know how I got an -A in this class. You get two grades the whole semester, one of which is your final (take home). He is scarily intelligent and it's easy to get lost while he's explaining a text. I liked what we read though, & hearing lectures by someone as esteemed as he. I don't recommend him to people that don't like english & reading.

Great Professor! One of the smartest professors I've ever had the pleasure of taking. The course is hard; the readings are complex (Nietzsche, Benjamin, Heidegger, Lacan, etc.) and the lectures can be tortuous (not torturous) and require enduring focus but what you get out of this course is invaluable. Professor Kramer is the man!

Very intelligent professor. Very thorough about the readings in class, but extremely dry at times. One paper off of a class discussion you lead with a group, and the final take home paper. That is your grade. Not recommended because of that.

Vastly intelligent and has a mastery of the subject. He likes to talk (and use an extremely sophisticated vocabulary) and will likely talk for the full period, but always welcomes questions. Be warned: the reading is difficult and dry and you will have very few opportunities to improve your grade.

As a straight A student, I have to forewarn you about the difficulty of Kramer and his immensely boring teaching stlye. He talks the entire period and gives few assignments, practically no ability to improve on your grades and is quite simply, boring as hell. I gave a decent effort in his course and he awarded me with a B. Simply put, don't take him

For Introduction to Critical Theory, I sometimes felt lost in class... but Dr. Kramer was so helpful in office hours! He's a really nice person, and let me check back with him a few times about my final paper (even let me ramble slightly about Bob Dylan). I really respect him!

Yes, he's smart. So what? His job is to teach, not to show off how much he knows. While he clearly knows his stuff, he fails to communicate his knowledge to his students. Furthermore, he concentrates solely on theory, rather than on its application to literature. He is arrogant and aloof -- extremely unapproachable. Save your time and money.

Obviously brilliant, but a bit aloof. My intro class appeared disorganized, with frequent shifts in emphasis. On the plus side, quite flexible with paper deadlines. I suspect he was not enthused about teaching an intro course.

C+ Kramer gave me an A- for the year and I turned in both papers late. The second one I e-mailed to him 2 weeks late while he was in London. He's awesome. He knows a lot, I wish he would've talked more in class, too much group work. The readings were beautiful. Great class.

C+ Kramer destroyed my self-confidence as a writer. He single-handedly caused me to shift my carreer goals away from writing. After submitting a 10-page piece on which I had labored for several weeks, I received only a two-word critique: "Superfluous & banal!". Form your own conclusion.

A very arrogant, patronizing, unapproachable man. He knows a lot about theory, but if you are interested in how the theory relates to literature, don't take this class -- you won't find out.

I thought his class was rather interesting. I loved the books he had us read, but we only had two grades: the group paper and final paper. I got a B on the first one but I'm afraid of the final paper. I hope he's a decent grader.

He only seems very smart. When you question him, you realize how little sense he makes. Also a very difficult grader, probably the hardest at Fordham. Only 2 papers though, no midterm and no final.
