Awesome guy. Flexible with due dates when I had an issue. Very knowledgeable about subject. Great lecture notes. Funny. You'll write a lot but it's doable. I've only had him online but he just seems like a really good, cool guy. Wish I had a face to face class with him!

Be prepared to read A LOT and carefully. Lots of quizzes. Only two major papers - midterm and final exams are tough but he gives great feedback. Lectures are thorough, entertaining, and very helpful. Attendance policy in this class is fairly strict but the professor is very approachable and willing to work with students.

I totally love Dr. Neeper, he is the most hilarious professor I have ever come across. Two papers for the entire class, midterm and final are the only tests which ask you identify quotes and explain them as well as write an essay. He has a pop quiz on the reading about every other class. He grades tough on essays but gives food feedback.

Love Dr. Neeper! He grades tough, but he does everything to help you grow as a writer. Only two papers the whole semester, only tests are the midterm and final, and he gives random quizzes over the readings. DO NOT skip any of the readings!!

I'm almost finished with my master's and he's the only teacher I've really liked in the program, if that tells you anything. He graded you on what you should know as a student, not based on his knowledge as a teacher. I would recommend him.

Dr. Neeper's class is so much fun! He gives great lectures and loves it when students give their opinions and thoughts about the material. He hates cell phone usage in class so keep it in your bag. He usually gives quizzes over the reading assignments that are the longest. By far one of the best professors at MSU and is absolutely hilarious

I am a non-English major who took Dr. Neeper's American lit class. He is a phenomenal professor who engages with his class and has a great sense of humor. He is a relatively tough grader, but you will learn and develop skills as a writer.

I was a transfer student who didn't see the purpose in taking an FYS course but I am very glad I did. Dr. Neeper is an engaging, funny, and helpful professor who genuinely cares about the success of his students.

Dr. Neeper is a hilarious guy. The class was super fun. I wasn't too thrilled to take the class, but that all changed when I got there. Discussion were thoughtful and he always gave good feedback. If I were an English major, I would definitely take all of his classes.

Known on campus as one of the hardest ENG100 professors you can take. It's true, he's a really tough grader when it comes to your 4 papers. However, you leave the class a much better writer. My advice is to listen to every word Dr. Neeper says, because this man is a genius and everything he says is gold. He's also very funny. I recommend him.

By far the best FYS class you can take. The topic is rock music, but you listen to all kinds. Dr. Neeper has a great sense of humor. You could be in the worst mood on a Monday morning and he'll make you laugh. Be ready to participate in discussions, he won't allow you to be shy. Overall the class is an easy A, just read your book and come to class.

Dr. Neeper is very helpful (if you ask questions) and answers emails quickly. His attendance policy is strict, so make sure you come to class. Always read your book when assigned, and be ready for a quiz. 4 papers total, the first 3 are fairly short/simple, the last is a 10 page research paper. If you want to learn to be a better writer, take him!

Dr. Neeper is great. He is very helpful on the assignments, makes his expectations clear, and is fair in his grading. He subtitles his American Writers in Perspective class Encyclopedic Narratives. There are only 5 books to read, but they are tough, but I was able to get an A in the class by just staying on top of the assignments. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I liked the guy but not the class. He teaches the stuff you need to know which is nice but he let his GA do all of the grading and she did a terrible job!! There's quizes over the reading and a 10 page research paper. He's a funny guy but hope that his GA isn't in there.

Expect a lot from his students. Still dont know how to take some of his more off color comments, however, it is interesting to hear some of the things that come out of his mouth. Interesting teacher, but it all comes crashing down with his horrible attendance policy. Does not accept excused absences!!
