Chen is an amazing professor, however you are going to work. If you want an A, you are going to need to put in hours of work. She expects you to understand the material, and learn it on your own time. She will also expect you to push your limits. If you work hard, she will reward you, she will carry you to greatness. You get what you earn, no less.

Grading weights and criteria are odd, so don't miss any assignment because you don't know how significant it may be to your total grade. She's an approachable professor. She doesn't stress correct speaking as much as I thought she would, she enables mispronunciation. Learning activities in class varied so doesn't get boring. Would take again.

Chen is a good professor, but you unlike most Chinese classes at Riddle, with Chen, just because you get an A doesn't mean that you actually learned. She spends a lot of time teaching culture, which if you've actually been to China, you know that she is outdated and culture is not something that can be taught. You have to learn on your own.

Often, when people try to teach their native language to others, it can be difficult because they don't understand how hard it is or they don't know the exact grammar rules, they just know what "sounds right". Dr. Chen knows all of the rules and always has explanations. She does her best to find teaching and studying methods that work for all.

How are you supposed to take a communications class from soneone born and raised in china, with an extremely thick accent. Didn't understand anything she said the whole first day. Lots of reading.
