Very tough teacher. I took his furniture making class. Grilled me on every critique. I learned, though, how to use every power tool safely at my disposal. Also, I made some of the most interesting furniture to sit on. I got an A-, it was a 24/7 effort. Too bad he retired.

Good professor. His class is time consuming. If you're non-arch major, don't waste your time. A lot of students think his class is hard to get an A, I strongly disagree. If you keep up with the work all semester long and don't put your notes off to the last minute, his exams/quizzes are relatively straight forward, lengthy, but straight forward.

Expects more than he should, but takes a genuine interest in the work. Very harsh, and sometimes friendly. If you value your own opinion about your designs more than his you'll do fine, if not, you shouldn't be a designer anyway. Spends 16 hours a day at SoA, expects the same from you, which is crazy. Only pers to finish projects had no other class

leighton is one of the best teachers in architecture. lots of work and a very harsh grader but when you get a good grade you know you deserved it. hes not licensed but knows more about architecture than most of the licensed architects teaching at the school.

Leighton Liu is by far the best teacher I have ever come into contact with. He may seem harsh at first but after a while, when you realize his strategy at teaching, how it benefits you in the long run, its easy to see why he has such a high reputation. He's honest, sometimes too honest to point where he's basically saying you suck. The key is to take everything he says as advice, EVERYTHING. If he tells you somethings wrong, fix it. Thats all that is to passing his class. That + ability to sleep less.

Extremely difficult course. He speeds through and expects students to understand and does not have patience with those less talented. Did every project and even extra credit, but still got a C. Nit picky. Be prepared for projects to be returned with lots of red marks...dripping with red!

Boring lectures. he reads text off of powerpoint slides to you. Lets you use your notebook on exams, but notetaking must be THOROUGH! (he asks really obscure stuff sometimes). make sure you write down all of the in class movie titles in your book. they will be on the exams. also know the names of the TAs before the first quiz. (extra credit question)

Teaches drawing and studio at the same time. There is really not time for both. Goes too fast through subject matter. Forgets it's easy for him because he's the teacher. Nice but can come down hard.
