The class consists of around 8 novels and some various poetry. It may sound like a lot, but the literature is all lovely and enjoyable so its a fast read. While you are expected to participate in class discussion the professor isn't critical of your interpretations. The grading seems fair and is more or less reflected in how much time you invest.

She is a great professor and she is very nice. This class has a lot of reading, though; theres eight novels, and we read one per week. No tests; we had talking points, where we write an outline and present it about one of the books. The midterm was an essay and final is an 8 page research paper. She is a tough grader, but is fair. Great class!

She thinks poetry has to written a certain way, but besides that she's alright. Critiquing poetry every class, mid-term is a two page essay on literary magazine, and final is a portfolio of poems. Unfortunately I did not get any better in her class. She tells you what to do instead of helping you develop. I got a B bc I didn't do the mid-term.

Dr. Hall is a tough A, but she is an easy B. Just participate in the workshop, write ten poems and only two essays (3-5 pages each, MLA) the whole semester (you know from day one what will be due the whole semester), and try your best. Easy, easy, easy to pass! And you will leave inspired!

She is a great teacher in the way that she cares for her student. However, if you are a senior in your last semester at CSUN do not take this class. IT requires so much work, and is very stressful. You can't miss class ever. Like Ever. She tough grader. She a hard teacher and you feel so nervous everyday in class.

Great class, consists of writing essays on the books read (take home), you get one book assigned to you to be a seminar leader for (relax, it's not as painful as you think), class participation and attendance is a must, and you watch one or two videos through out the semester. It was a great lesbian literature course, Hall is one of the best. Fun.

All the books required are needed, you get to memorize a poem (write a critical analysis on it) and recite it to the class, the midterm is a mix of multiple choice and an essay response, the final is a portfolio of sorts (your own "anthology" of works), and she takes class participation very seriously. A great instructor, definitely recommend her.

Dr. Hall is amazing. She accommodated us when we had sub-par group members and our grades didn't suffer. Just make sure you do the reading and participate in class. Not only will she regard you highly, but your grade will show it.

Dr. Hall is a blessing. She is not only a fabulous poet, but a loving and genuine teacher. She is committed to the education and growth of her students, and will challenge you to push yourself as a writer. I took several courses with her during my graduate studies and loved every one of them. It was an honor to be her student. Gives great feedback!

Super bizarre lectures, in fact you might end up teaching yourself the entire course. The text pretty much describes everything you need to know, and her lectures aren't even helpful. However, you watch films about the poets, and she is very nice, so thats a plus. Expect to study and memorize a lot of info. Not terribly hard, but not an easy A.

Dr. Hall is about the nicest person ever. She's pretty fair in her grading and, had I been the least bit interested in the subject matter, she probably would have made the class very interesting.

One of the most inspirational professors I have taken. Journals were a bit annoying but that's how she keeps track on whether or not you read the book . The other assignments are overall fun.

The other comments say it all, really. If you didn't care about poetry before this class, she's the professor to turn that around. She -is- poetry. Best writing class I've taken at CSUN, hands down. Her little insightful emails are lovely too!

Professor Hall is one of the besttttttt professors i have had.....in the beginning i have to admit she intimidates you by how much she knows about her subject, but she makes you fall in love with it and is a very fair grader! if you study in her class and do what you need to do, you will get an A...but it is not an easy class. AMAZING!

I've had Dr. Hall for three classes, including Senior Seminar (poetry). She is one of my favorite professors...all the English professors I've had were incredible. She lives and breathes poetry and it is contagious. She's insightful and really works hard at helping you shape your work to *your* needs/wants. Tells great stories, too!

extremely talented. i learned a lot from her. wish she would have offered more lecture instead of leaving the focus on discussion between classmates. she's brilliant! final was given to us beforehand, leaving the chance for everyone to achieve a decent grade. she's lovely.
