Straightforward class. Kind of throws you into content so if you don't have any programming experience the first few weeks are a nightmare. TAs are very helpful and there is a lot of leeway in grading. Must show up to lab, quizzes in lecture usually announced. Once you grasp the material it's a breeze. Tests are pretty easy, reviews in class.

Lander a nice guy. Lectures kinda suck. Labs are were you learn everything. Overall class wasn't to bad. The TA's were amazing!

Lander is an expert in the course material, but god are his lectures boring. I never could bring myself to pay attention. Lots of work, but it's not a hard class. The TAs are really good, just pay attention to the labs/assignments and don't worry about the lectures.

Comment:

The best professor I've ever met. Boring in class but if you listen to him carefully, you will find that he explains profound concepts in a simple way. Helpful assignments and labs though too much instructions. Amazing project! Again, the best professor!

Comment:

Assignments can be pretty convoluted at times, and there's a lot of hand holding provided. However, you do learn about OOP - the benefits of using it are infinitely more clear after this class than CS 110. The best part of this class are Lander's tangents about the history of CS and his dry sense of humor.

Seems like a nice guy, but he just can't teach. His lectures are incredibly boring and barely teach anything. Also his labs and assignments are horribly designed. They are riddled with mistakes, and walk you through exactly what to write without explaining anything, until it skips a step leaving you unclear what to do. Skip this class (bug eileen)

A very nice man. Lecture is 90% pointless (and boring), except for quizzes - you do the learning on the assignments, not in lecture. Makes mistakes sometimes with assignments, ask all the questions on Piazza. Know ArrayLists cold for exams I had some problems with the final project, and he was happy to let me come back in a few days and try again.

Comment:

Lander was always there to help at any hour of the day. While he did assign weekly assignments and had a lot of pop quizzes, this class was ok. The lectures were long and boring, as most (including myself) fell asleep numerous times. If you read the textbook, you're good to go. Be ready to program in Java as you'll need to know what you're doing.

Classes get harder and harder to pay attention in, but you end up learning much more from the assignments and lab. He is fair, there will be pop quiz's but he usually goes over the answer before giving the quiz. He will help you if you go to him and ask

Lectures are very boring but plenty of pop quizes so go to class. Make sure to do the assignments completely and on time. Class is an easy A if don't slack off. Office hours are extremely helpful - both the TAs and Lander's. The assignment's requirements are always changing so don't start it too early or you'll run into tons of unexpected errors.

The class was okay and wasnt very difficult. He does, however, take that into account and for my class, only a 95%+ qualified as an A. Put in the work and don't slack and you will probably be fine. I found it really hard to pay attention in class, but he provides all the notes on line in well made slide shows and the class was fine because of that.

Lander is not fantastic at teaching. You won't learn anything during the lectures aside from when the next quiz is and some advice on it. Where the learning really happens is on the labs and weekly assignments. A lot of the assignments are cut and paste though, so you'll have to put in outside effort to actually understand the material.

If you bought a textbook for this class, you just wasted money. You can miss half of his lectures and still pass this class. If you are looking to get an A, his office hours are GOLDEN!!! Attend them early on each week to complete assignments and make up quizzes. He will help. The TAs don't care and grade assignments harshly. GO TO LANDER!!!

The assignments are so unclear that you have to wait for them to send emails about updates to the wording of the assignment. He doesn't follow the textbook in order and will skip around from chapter to chapter. Which makes it hard to really understand the topic.
