Comment:
I had Dr. Lum for MTH 201 and 202, and I must say that he will probably be one of the hardest teachers you'll have. But what I like about him is that he cares, and will literally stay in his office and help you as long as you like. If you really want a challenge and to learn you should have Dr. Lum.

I really don't like to badmouth teachers but Mr. Lum is truly the worst teacher I have ever had. I was doing poor in his class so I came to his office for help, and all he did was make me feel like an idiot and blamed me for my poor grade. Brutal grader, covers material way too fast, and he seems really condescending at times. Would not recommend.

Comment:
He's an awful teacher who's only interest is to cover material as fast as possible (bragged how fast he used to be). You'll be like 6 chapters ahead of everyone else. Went too fast to learn anything. Has a terrible grading system where 95% of the semester grade could be based off the final exam. I learned nothing and office hours didn't help at all

Lum spends many office hours explaining things, but it's all fruitless since his tests have nothing to do with what he assigns as review. His tests are EXTREMELY hard. You will learn a lot, but it will be very hard to succeed.

Great professor. His classes are not easy, but after the course was over I felt I had really learned something. Being in uper-div math now I am very grateful to have been challenged and learned so much. I find that students who worked hard in his class have an easier time in other math courses due to their deep understanding of Calc topics.

Takes some getting use to this guy. Hard to like, and even harder grader, but his availability in office hours softens my rating some. Very so-so overall.

He goes through the material way too quickly, definitely need to read ahead before class. Definitely knowledgeable, but be ready to lose some self confidence if you attend his office hours

He goes really fast but he knows everything. If your not afraid to be slightly yelled at or feel really stupid he's great in the end. He also does a rounding thing at the end of the semester so even if your failing you could pass.

His class is extremely hard especially when going from high school calculus to college. I had a really high grade in high school calc 1 and now am barely making an average grade in calc 2. He is always available for help but sometimes makes you feel stupid.

A prety good teacher. He is very helpful outside of class and has tons of office hours. He will even help you after you're done with his class. Sometimes he can be a little unclear, but not for lack of trying to help you understand.

He moves fast, focuses a lot on deriving new techniques rather than just telling us to use them...which can be difficult for people to follow, and can be confusing at times...however, he is probably one of the most helpful and caring professors I've had. He really got me to love math.

He is impossible to understand. He subbed for my teacher one day and was just reviewing a concept I already understood but managed to make it confusing. He is also an insanely hard grader. I forgot dx and he took off 5 out of 12 points.

Don't ever get Lum. He's a really confusing teacher. I have him for Finite Mathematics and he makes relatively easy ideas incomprehensible. He's not helpful

Dr lum is a really nice guy but because he is so insanely smart he can't understand why someone wouldn't get something and is realy condesending especailly in office hours. His class is mandatory to attend but the lectures have little to do with the homework or tests. Ridiculously hard grader.

He seems to be a pretty nice guy in the classroom but he's kind of mean in his office hours. He seems like he knows what he's talking about though. And yeah, he's pretty much a weirdo.

a decent prof-very very smart which makes it hard for him to comprehend why a student might not understand a concept and can therefore seem condescending and make his student(s) feel a bit inadequate. Not much different in his office hours; just more intense pressure since its one-on-one.
