Comment:

Cool professor for the most part. The class started off easy enough as the first exam was pretty simple. However, the 2nd and 3rd exams had 4 huge questions to complete in a small 50 minute block. The room was full at end of the exams and the averages were in the 60's. Be careful as this class can ramp up real quick and getting an A is quite tough.

He is a very established professor and is good at what he does. If you go to office hours, he is very helpful. His lectures are not as great, however. He moves really quickly through problems and also stands right in front of where he writes so it's hard to see. Otherwise, he's great. He cares about his students and wants to make sure they all pass

Comment:

Dr. Shen is hilarious in his own way. I really enjoyed lectures. Sit in the front because it is sometimes hard to understand him and his writing is not very clear all the time. He explains things fairly well and TAs are usually able to fill in anything he does not explain completely.

He wears the same outfit every day, and it's adorable. Other than that, his writing is kind of hard to understand, and he makes mistakes quite frequently. He is very funny though, and he will explain anything you need explained after class. Our TA was sick, and he filled in and held office hours. He explains very well one on one.

Nice guy,funny too.He doesn't work out the problems beforehand and so sometimes he'll choose an icky problem,confuse people and then say it's not a good problem.his handwriting can be kind of hard to read sometimes but if you listen to what hes saying you should be okay.I don't believe he has office hours but overall hes a fairly good professor

Really nice guy, but the worst teacher I've had. Linear Alg is all proofs and his logic was poor. Clearly had not taught this class in a long time. Huge disconnect between material done in class and material on tests. Seemed like whole class bombed tests, had huge curve. Nice, funny, but wrong for Lin Alg.

Dr. Shen was a great lecturer. He used a few... interesting metaphors to explain concepts to us, like comparing raising 1 to infinity as raising 1 to the power of hamburger. It was a huge lecture, I recommend going early if you want a near-front seat. His handwriting was hard to read, but as long as you listen to what he's saying then you'll be ok.

He has an accent, but he is still easy to understand. He is very funny and wants everyone to do well. He is very flexible too. The class is an easy A as long as you do the homework (it's not required but good practice). I highly recommend him as a teacher.

Has been teaching Calc 2 for too long!! Skips over many steps and explains way too fast. Has an accent that is hard to follow sometimes. You must have a good TA or be able to understand this on your own in order to do well in his class.

I truly enjoyed this class. Shen is a wonderful teacher. He does a lot of examples and is happy to clarify anything if you are confused. You should really go to lectures as it is difficult to learn from the textbook. The TAs for this class are all equally terrible so try to get all your help from Professor Shen.

I love Dr. Shen! He is so nice and really cares about all of his students. Take Calc 2 with him! The tests are difficult, but if you are having trouble, go see him during his office hours. The only trouble I had in this class was with the TA, Toska. Try to switch out of this TA's discussion, since he grades very hard.

A great prof!! Really easy-going, but somehow manages to make calc 2 understandable. Tests are somewhat difficult, but the optional final to replace a test grade more than makes up for it. Do the homework and go to his office hours if you don't understand -- he's really willing to help. I'd take math again with him in a second.

Best math professor. Really entertaining and lectures are really clear. He's easy to talk to and is more than willing to offer out-of-class help. Tests can be tricky but are not too bad. I was lucky to take this class with him when he taught it. Would definitely take another class with him. Best.

Dr. Shen is a wonderful teacher. He is extremly patient and will repeat himself as many times as is necessary for everyone to understand. He says odd things sometimes and gets really excited about concepts that he likes. Get him if you can.

Dr. Shen is a really nice guy, but hard to understand at times. Its a little tough to follow his work, as he does some steps in his head and likes to solve proofs for absolutely no reason. Fortunately, the TAs write most of the tests and explain everything he doesn't. Very reasonable class, if you do the hw and study an A is within reach.
