Comment:

She is very good at playing classical guitar, but not so good at teaching Theory. If the class got something wrong on a quiz, she told us she taught it to us so we should know it, and then she moved on. Communication was a huge issue in this class. No one really learned anything. Nice lady, bad professor.

I've been taking her for classical guitar and my playing skills have improved greatly! Before taking her I had never even listened to classical guitar but now I love it and she's a big part of why. Her course materials are very helpful and will be useful well after you've taken her class. She gives very clear and in-depth instructions to help you .

I made a chart to help me memorize the guitar strings, she was offended and said she was against my learning methods. I could only use what she gave me, which didnt help me whatsoever. DO NOT take private guitar lessons with her. I would not wish this course on my worst enemy.

Very sweet lady if you're kind to her. Get to know her -- really knows her stuff and has had very interesting life. She gets upset if you blatantly neglect her class and then ask for retakes, be considerate. I had a bit of a scare when I found out the syllabus said for every two classes missed your grade drops an increment, but she waives that.

Everyone says it; do exactly what she says. If she knows you're going to work hard, she will teach you (and you will learn) everything she knows. I think maybe some people misunderstand her and her style of teaching, Dr. Afshar is a musical genius with a distinct style. Follow it and it will be very rewarding.

If you are looking to become an awesome classical guitarist, Dr Lily Afshar is the teacher to help you do it. Next semester, I will be completing my degree with her. She has been the most inspirational and challenging teacher of my college career. I have been able to play music that I thought I would never be able to play before studying with her.

Dr. Afshar is incredible. If you are serious about the classical guitar, you cannot find a better teacher. She performs concerts all around the globe, and brings that real-world experience into her teachings. Dr. Afshar's students are very, very fortunate to have a professor with such experience, intelligence, and dedication.

Since I can be a major pain sometimes, she still worked with me on everyting. I learned some pretty tough material but thats what I wanted-since every aspect of my studies was covered now the tough material is easy! I got alot out of my lessons!

She was my mentor. She prepared me for a scholarship auditon that lead to a scholarship and later recommended me for a teaching job. She was tough but you never get better if someone is easy on you.

Your typical guitar player or student of guitar, in my humble opinion, is unrealistic as far as academic study of a musical instrument is concerned. I don't have any real basis for saying this, but I just imagine tha most of this harsh criticism is unjustified.
