Legitimately the worst professor I've had. Makes inappropriate and off-topic "jokes" in class, grades on utterly irrelevant things like how she thinks we should format our notes, and I honestly did not learn a thing from her. Disagreed with her over the definition of a word (she was wrong, I was right) and she graded me more harshly after that.

She's a very nice lady and tells a lot of stories in class, which I like, but she's an inconsistent grader. It's hard to know if you'll do well on the exams, even though they're all take-home- all of her classes have take home tests.

Comment:

Dr. Benbow is one of New Paltz's greatest professors. Classes are lecture based, where she draws on personal experience to get her point across. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and learned a lot from it. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to learn without feeling like they are.

She is really nice and funny. She jokes through the whole class, but still manages to teach. You'll hear A LOT about her life though! She's pretty easy but the grading is inconsistant and you don't always know what she wants as far as papers/tests. All exams are take-home.

I disliked this professor very much and would not recommend her if you actually looking to learn something. Not a hard grader and the tests are take home, but she is really boring, obnoxious, innapropriate when it comes to personal sob stories, and rude. not my cup of tea.

very easy grader although she can give you a bad grade on the midterm. although the final and midterm are take home don't be fooled. right a paragraph for each question or you'll receive a bad grade. classes just lecture based and she does go off and laugh alot but overall i loved her and she's nice and quirky but the classes can be boring.

Good lectures. Midterm and final are take homes. I personally got a long with her very well- some did not. Gives the option to look at your research paper early- take advantage! Such a great part of the sociology department.

Benbow is a really nice lady. Her lectures are interesting and engaging. Though her lectures have nothing to do with the take home midterm and final, they still open the eyes of many close minded people. She's a tough grader but she's easy to approach outside of class.

She's a nice lady, a little wacked, but nice. She randomly has little laughing outbursts in which everyone is clueless on whats so funny. Her class is really boring, everyone stares at the clock. She's an extremely hard grader,we had a take home midterm and many people failed. Theres no homework, only a midterm, a final, and a research paper.

Taking a class with her is a dose of reality. Laziness will not take you very far!I took her for social inequality and got an A . Its all about making the most out of class, and putting your best foot forward. People tend to say harsh things when they get a bad grade.

Just horrible. She is not fit to be a teacher. I'm not commenting on her general intelligence, just on her teaching ability. She is just plainh awful at explaining things. Her class was literally painful to take. Plus she obviously favors the black students in every way.

do not take a class with her. she makes an interesting topic pointless. she doesn't try to help you learn, she tries to trick you. she just reads from the book and stifles any interesting discussion. her exams don't test your overall knowledge of the subject- she picks out insignificant things to trick you. she doesn't know what she's talking about

she is not that smart and is condescending to her students without a right to be. she dislikes certain students without good reason and makes that clear in her interactions. i didn't learn much of anything at all in her class.dont take a class with her. she is angry and ****.
