She was okay as a teacher; you don't really learn anything from her if you come with a solid understanding of the English language. In your likely five essays, if you make a convincing argument that's backed up by copious amounts of evidence, you'll be fine. Feminism is usually a key concept to keep in mind, no matter what class she's teaching.

This woman is a saint. She notices effort and takes it into account when she grades papers. She has harsh critiques sometimes but they are constructive. She made me a better writer and possibly gave me a better grade than I deserved.

Our grade in this class was based on 2 five-page papers and 3 in-class essay exams plus a couple small assignments. She gives you the questions for the in-class essays before and lets you bring in a paper front and back of notes (so basically an outline) so they're not that bad. The class is mostly discussion & reading (we read 8 novels).

Seidel expects a lot out of her students, but she is a good professor. She wants you to succeed, and if you're willing to do the work, she is eager to help you. I also thought her class was very interesting, and I learned a lot.

This class lacked even a morsel of structure. She isn't open to others' viewpoints that differ from her own. Interesting material, but we didn't do much with it. Every class is just sitting in a circle and doing a group discussion, no lectures. If you don't speak during class she won't take you seriously. Easy class, but frustrating.

Dr. Seidel is SUPER sweet and smart. She is an easy grader and is very passionate about what she teachers. Her lectures are incredibly interesting and homework is easy and fun. Taking her class was more like sitting in a coffee shop and listening to a friend speak about something they love.

I really enjoy Seidel. I don't usually agree with her (she's not technically a communist, but some of her views lean pretty heavily that way) but I know how to hold my tongue. We have journal entries due every class, but it's not major. Show up, don't make her mad, and it's a pretty easy class.

Comment:
Her JINS course is probably one of the easier JINS course to take. There is no big paper. She requires you to write journal entries every time you meet and at the end of the semester, you revise and expand your journal entries by a 1000 wordsâ??â??this should not be a problem if you are answering the journal prompts throughly. Tests are essay based.

Speaking as one of her favorites, YOU MUST SPEAK UP IN HER CLASS!!! She will not respect quiet students that fade into the back. Make sure that you read up on the material before class because she will call you out. She is very knowledgeable and will work with you if you need help. Def my favorite teacher in the department.

Seidel is a great teacher. I have her for Queer Theory. Although she is a bit critical of those who do not share her views, she gives helpful feedback on papers and lets you revise. She has her favourites, but to be one you definitely have to speak up in class.

Very opinionated. You better agree with her opinions or she'll mark off on papers. Mandatory Transsexual convention attendance. Most grades are papers/journal entries. Be prepared to read a lot. Discussion based class. Nice lady, but has her favorites.

Discussion class, she definitely likes when you speak up. She knows a lot and has fun with the books. Downside: she's opinionated and when she doesn't agree with you she'll share with the whole class... not fun. Also, she never responded to my emails about missing a test and was rude to me about it-not a fan of that. :(

Let's get this straight, she's a clear lecturer, gives relatively easy tests and homework, and is generally undemanding. That aside, I do not like this professor or class, and would never recommend her for anyone. She is largely unaccepting of opinions outside her narrow views, no matter the evidence.

Seidel is an opinionated woman but did a good job grading impartially. Her class was interesting and I learned a lot. I would definately recommend her!! And for the record - I'm extremely conservative and I'm not a feminist and I still earned an A :-D

Definitely has favorites and very aggressive opinions that if you don't share will make the class somewhat difficult to tolerate. Fairly knowledgeable. Pretty fair about grading despite her classroom demeanor.

I enjoyed Applying Literary Theory with Dr. Seidel. She is a great professor and she's very knowledgeable about what she teaches. If you ever take this class with her, lean toward the Feminist critiques; she'll love that. Dr. Seidel is a tough professor but she's also a very good one.

It's awesome how passionate she is about what she teaches. However, if you do not agree with her or you answer her essay questions based on your interpretation rather than the exact meaning of the author, you are screwed. The more LIBERAL you are... the better chance for survival.

Well, if you take Queer Theory you've got to expect a liberal teacher. I loved her and I would take her again in a heartbeat, but you should be prepared to do the work and participate in the discussion. She is a major liberal "the feminist" of the school, but she's really good.
