Her lectures really highlight the reading so if you are doing the readings (and yes a lot) the lectures are more summary to help setup you up for tests and quizzes. Don't rely on lecture for tests, READ! I know it is a GE class that some think is way to much work but it is a HISTORY class which always means a decent amount of reading and writing!

Emmerich is a really cool lady with a dry sense of humor who really knows her stuff. It's an interesting class, but the exams and quizzes are very hard. The lecture notes barely cover what you'll need to know for the tests, so I'd say it's necessary to do all the readings. This class is way too demanding for a GE class.

She was always very lively and excited to teach, but the stuff that was on the test, was not heavily discovered in class. I recommend reading the books, even though they are extremely boring, that is where most of the test questions come from. Very interesting topic and teacher, go to class, do your readings and STUDY!!

Wonderful class. Interesting lectures, the first part of the semester. Second part is mainly research on your topic within 19th C. Native American History. The ease of the class will depend on the student's reading/research/writing skills. Pick a topic you really want to know ALL about, as you will be doing a lot with it!

I don't know how anyone likes this teacher. She tries to be funny - she's not. She doesn't have power points, she gets off topic constantly, and I never know what I am supposed to take notes on or what I am supposed to be studying for.

When I came into the class i had little interest about Indians, however she is very fun and makes the class enjoy learning. Her test are quite hard, and she gives little quizzes every other week. Hw is pretty simple. Just read the readings for each week. Attendance is very important because she will give out extra credit sometimes. Overall an enjoy

Lisa is amazing; she is a true Native American advocate that knows her history and has opened my mind. She teaches very clear and you should definitely pay attention, its super interesting too. Study well for quizzes and test, dont be afraid to ask questions and most of all keep your mind open. This is probably the best class I've taken in my life.

Every Chico State student should take a class with Emmerich. She is energetic, intelligent, and always cracks jokes during her lectures. While the weekly reading assignments are VERY important, she takes test questions directly from quizzes and always provides prompts before the mid-terms. Don't pass this professor up!!

She's one of the best. Lectures are always fascinating, confident, and informative. A great speaker. She is a tough grader and expects a lot, so the key is be VERY DETAILED in homework and essays. Work hard and you'll come away with a lot of knowledge. Generous with extra credit opportunity.

Dont come to class late. She will not like you at all. But she is a very good teacher. He quizzes aren't bad, just make sure you are up to speed on the class. Final and Midterm just need a little bit of studying. Pretty good class.

Emmerich was great. It's one of the tougher classes I've had but she made it very interesting. You have to do the reading to do well on the quizzes and homework, which are weekly. Tests are pretty easy if you just study with the guide she'll give you. and she's helpful, but you have to make the effort and ask questions.

Not a bad teacher but she expects WAY to much for a GE class. Most of my upper division courses are easier. Quizzes, and tests are worded very ambiguously, and aren't always clear. Just remember for essays to include "who what when, and where" She loves when u include dates in assignments. very knowledgeable, but i wouldn't take another class.

This class was cake. Just skim the reading and do the homework. The quizzes are worded ambiguously sometimes, but she offers tons of extra credit. There is no reason anyone couldn't pass her class.

Good Class but hard if you arnt good at history. weekly quizzes are somewhat difficult if you only go to class and take notes, and don't read the textbook. Tests are multiple choice & essay but the questions are in depth and sometimes confusing. if you take this professor make sure you're ready to work hard and don't expect an A unless you love his
