Some of the best sessions I've ever had. I did a couple of senior sessions with Smith (333&384). Fun, funny, engaging, enlightening. Prof. Smith is serious about the work though. If youre here to learn, she's your prof. I find it funny that people seem to expect anything less - it's university! Dont expect her to hand it to you.

I really enjoyed her lectures. She was well prepared and the notes were straightforward and easy to follow. Midterm was an in class essay so if you know how to write an essay you are fine. Would take another class from her again.

I loved Dr. Smith as a professor! She genuinely seemed to care about her students, her lectures were fairly interesting, and tutorials were very pertinent to the lecture material. I would definitely take another class with her!

Good prof- interesting lectures. Can be tough to follow as the class doesn'tgo that chronological. Two term class so no final yet- but gave a good outline for the midterm.

She is a good historian, but seems to still be working on teaching skills. Her examples were obscure and her slides very incomplete and sporadic with random names rather than important people or facts. Good usage of Class Wiki and tutorial elements and also a very personal prof that I received a few personalized e-mails from over the course.

Avoid taking a class from her. She does not know how to teacher a 100-level class; marks way too hard. The fact that she is a good historian does not make her a good teacher. After taking this class in my first year I was afraid to take another History class. My 300-level History marks are 20% higher than my mark in Lisa's 100-level class

Hard but fair marker. Expect a bad mark on the midterm, to learn from it, and do much better on the final. She is not only consistent with marking, but also with the types of questions she asks on her exams.

Organized, yet marks way too hard. Every person in the class I spoke with averaged at least 15% lower then all thier other classes. One guy in the class asked for help on a guestion for the final, because he could not find the answer and she would not tell him. HE asked if it was on the internet and she said no and refused to help him.

The class was boring. For a 100-level class she expected us to know more history then we taught in high school, forgetting that most of us had not taken a univ. history before. It took atleast 3.5 hrs to read all the assigned readings for the tutorial. The midterm was difficult and marked on the hard side. But, she knows history very well.

Very well presented lectures (Powerpoint) - fast talker - tough but fair marker - tutorials require journal entry each week. Feminist perspective - if you like your History without wars - this is it ! I took HIST 121 and came back for more.

Excellent prof. Great lectures, straight forward tests. Tutorials aren't that great, but its hardly her fault. A lot of reading, a lot of assignments. I would totally take more classes with her, she made class fun.

I really liked her. Straight forward lectures. grouped by themes not chronologically. Powerpoint helpful. Too much emphasis on tutorial. Fair marker, she's tough but doesn't expect anything other profs don't. Prepare your essays for tests ahead of time if she gives you the topics!!

Brutal. I am a History Major in my 3rd year and have never got below a 70 in any History class. We just got our midterms back for this class and I got 40% - BE AWARE: EXTREMELY HARD MARKER AND UNFAIR. Most of the class failed.

Very fair. No bias whatsoever in grading or lecture presentation. talks fast, lectures are not in chronological order, but grouped by subject, which made it much easier to remember how event A affected event B. Supporting text was in chronological order, so the combination of lecture and text gave me a good understanding of the subject matter.

I enjoyed Professor Smith's class. She was always punctual and never went over her time limit. She knew additional interesting facts to the material as well. But, she also really marks midterms hard, and expects a lot from the tutorials. The overhead of jot notes is a bonus tho, and gives you a good outline of what you should know.
