Dr. Kohn, though she looks frail and old she is an excellent Doaist scholar in China. Her intellect and research capabilities on the subjects are outstanding. It is unfortunate though that Boston University does not lead a program with specializations and expand of their course offerings.

Comment:

She's a nutty woman, but believable as an academic. The class is interesting, not as in-depth as I'd hoped, but still lots of fun. It's not necessarily an easy A course, you need to do the reading and make sure you do well on the two papers and the exams (mid-term and final).

really cool professor! funny & easy to understand, encourages class participation, & answers EVERY question. follows her book closely, which makes filling in notes a breeze. fair grader, and helpful during office hours.

Comment:

Kohn is great in Death & Immortality. It's a lot of reading to keep up with, but she's genuinely interesting to listen to, and is really knowledgable on the subject. I'd recommend the class if you can handle a lot of work for an interesting topic. She's great at this class, and pretty funny, too. She's not a looker but the class was tons-a-fun.

This is the worst teacher that I have had at BU. She really should not be teaching. She really did not know that much about hinduism. And her lectures are verbatim from the book, it seems there is hardly a seminal thought in her head.

The class is pretty easy. You don't have to read the books to get an A (I didn't). The lectures are overwhelmingly boring, though: just her talking for an hour and a half. Some videos are interesting. Discussion only every other week.

Material interesting, class boring. Lacks zing to hold anyone's attention/interst. Speaks in monotone, does not differentiate important info from the mundane. Get to know her personally-she is nice and helpful 1-on-1. HP=very helpful!

This woman is horrible, I don't understand how she is teaching. VERY boring, she has the worst accent making her impossible to listen to, not to mention her coughing and sucking down water right into the microphone. This class = naptime!

Kohn's lectures were not clearly structured. However, she really knows her stuff! She encorporated films and slides into lectures which helped our understanding of the material. Exams and grading were very fair. She is really amusing, you will love her!

Kohn's a pretty good professor- she has extensive knowledge of Taoist texts and is very helpful for any student in office hours. I recommend her Chinese Medicine- but attend the class with an OPEN MIND.

Wow. I've never had to literally inflict pain on myself in order to stay awake before. The reading can be interseting at times, but class time is truly torture. I'd rather be dead myself.
