Absolutely awful professor. We all know that professor that loves to brag about herself while attempting to teach a course, Ms. Tolbert is her. She is very disrespectful to students and grades very slowly. If you take HIS 430 in the spring, you will have a major assignment over spring break and also. Just absolutely awful....

So, I took 2 440/430 with her. She is very unclear about what she wants & she's a total contradiction to herself. She will say one thing and expect something else. She embarrasses you in front of the class and talks down to all her students. Take notes in class on what she says and work with peers. This is the only way to survive.Good Luck!

She is extremely disrespectful to students in class. There were times when students would ask questions and she talked down to them simply for asking a question. The class is helpful for history majors, but DONT DO IT ALONE! Work with a group! Her directions are never clear but working with a group helps ease the pain.

Wow oh wow, this class kicked my tail.. She was extremely helpful with the rewrites and with the final project. Her grade system may not be as clear, but overtime, you will understand how she grades.

I see a pattern develop where folks in lower level course dislike Dr. Tolbert. I have had her for every semester for nearly 2 yrs now. She is amazing. If you want to improve your reading, writing, research, and history abilities she is the prof to take. Yes, it can be difficult, but it is very worth it. Plus she is funny, quirky at times!

This is probably a good class for a freshman or sophomore, since she spends most of her time focusing on research and reading/study methods and how to apply them to coursework. She is very nice, but her lectures seem to be designed for high schoolers. In regard to midterms, it is often hard to tell exactly what she is looking for. She is very vague.

If you are not a freshman do not take this course. This class is very boring and she reads directly from the blackboard presention. She is very much into favortism and only helps those students whom she likes. The most condsending Professer I have ever taken. She grades student one how she likes them and difinatily not on the merit of the work done

She knows alot about what she is teaching but DOES NOT relate it well to the students. She often grades assignments by different standards than the instructions she gives for that assignment. She also goes over repeatively things that most students understand (or should by this point). She is quite often unnecessarily repeative.

If you are not a bleeding-heart liberal, you will not make an 'A' with this professor. Furthermore, she will bore you to tears with her interest in architectural and ceremonial history...zzzz.....

Professor Tolbert was probably the best history professor I've ever had. I learned more about research in her class than any other class I've ever taken, and she was EXTREMELY helpful. Was very funny and very laid back. I would jump at the chance to take another class with her. She was very clear and concise. A++++

I am not sure where some of her negative ratings came from. I think she is great! She is very helpful and knows a ton of stuff. She also laughs at herself sometimes which lightens the mood up a bit. I highly reccomend taking her class.
