This guy knows his stuff. He may seem tough and mean to some people, but he cares about the safety profession and wants the students that don't care to get out. He is also very approachable outside of class. His lectures are interesting to listen to and gives many real-life examples to supplement them. Tests are not that difficult either.

He knows his stuff for sure, but hes tough! I took him for SAFE111 and in that class he wants to weed people who dont care out. His classes are mandatory (sign in sheet). If you miss class, you will be lost. His exams are hard and you have a semester group project that he does not grade very easy

Comment:

Tough course, but his knowledge in the field is remarkable. Willing to help you after class and during office hours. I spend a great deal of time studying for his tests but I do pretty well on all of them. I have an A in their right now but worked very hard for it. The negative reviews are from people not willing to put the time into the class.

Although a little Napoleonic in both stature and attitude, Ferg is genuinely interested in the subject and his students. His labs were informative, but I would have preferred bigger fires, just to add realism. He has a grudge against the world for some reason. He thinks he is very cool, and acts really tough. He only likes about 5 students and will call on them the whole time. If you are not one of them sutdents he will never even look at you. He also likes to call on people who dont know the answers and try to be funny and cool.

If you rated him well you are a safety kiss ass. If you don't like to kiss his ass he doesn't like you! The class information is great, but it would be so much better with a prof that you could enjoy. The only good thing is that he does make you learn the material. He grades labs unfairly.

Thinks he is better than God, if he does not like you forget about anything higher than a C. He also trys to be a real tough guy, it's just how he makes up for having an unhappy life. He seems to like to call people stupid indirectly too, really good thing for the chair of the department.
