I have hated history class for most of my academic career, but this was pretty tolerable. She's kind, makes an effort to be inclusive, and the class is honestly not too difficult. Don't take if you hate writing.

Loretta really isn't that bad, she has a wack sense of fashion but if you can get past that she's pretty nice. She does give a lot of work but its not too hard, there is a lot of reading but you can just skim. There were only 2 tests that were open note and 1 paper. She doesn't use a textbook but instead has a 10-15 pg article you read each week and write either an abstract, blog or comparative analysis on. There's only one research assignment and it's really easy. She's inconsistent in how she grades papers, but her lectures are easy to follow and the tests aren't that hard as long as you study.

I feel bad giving her a poor review because she is such a nice person, but if you have the option to take a different Professor for Hist 304, take it! She is an unreliable grader. You will never know what to expect, even if you feel like you have her grading system figured out. There is NO structure to her lectures, which makes it hard to follow.

Very hard for a G.E. class. 10 papers, a research paper, and a book review. And she does not expect for you to write about the actual historical content, but more about analyzing what was read. She treats it like an English class instead of history. Hard grader, with a very unclear grading scale. Do not take her!!

She is a really nice person, but I didn't learn anything interesting in her class. Every word she said you can find on Wikipedia. The only advantage: I improved my writing skills although the price for that was a lot of writing assignments.

She just assigns too much. She treats her class like it's the only class you have. I had a 300 pg book & a paper to write on it per week, & if it wasn't that it was still the equivalent in articles. I took it while taking 18 units; I didn't sleep that semester. Only take her if your taking 12 units or you will regret it tremendously.

So far she's got some pretty bad comments but I honestly learned a lot. Sure she assigns more than enough assignments and believe me that was frustrating. However, as a teacher she knew what she was talking about and she definately helps you understand the other side of the story. If you truly want to learn some good history take her class.
