No matter how much you write you will get a B. He just throws out random grades for assignments. There is so much reading its ridiculous. My advice is to go to the index of the book. Look up a word in the question and just read the parts that have to do with the reading. He assigns a lot of reading and you wont need to read 90% of it.

Adorable, wise man. Don't take this if you plan on slacking. Worked hard for my A. Read and answer 2 questions on paper in detail then discuss paper in class. Exams are 4 at home mini essays, but no matter how much you write and think you covered everything there's still something you missed. Learned so much about cultural perspective. Worthwhile.

Incredibly knowledgeable about this topic. You have to do the readings because there's a worksheet with questions due every week over the reading and there can be a bit of it. He doesn't have tests, just three take home exams and they're the exact questions on the worksheets so take good notes.

Don't buy or rent the book - use I-Share on Milner's website. READ! Buy the notes - they're $3 and has one-liners from previous classes. Word to the wise: don't take this class if you're looking for easy credits. Even if you're not a major, you need to work to deserve your grade. Pop quizzes are the lectures the day after the test.

You will have to attend class to do well. There is homework due every week, you need the textbooks. There are surprise quiz's, which will hurt your grade if you do poorly on. Don't expect to get over an 8 on passports he is a hard grader. If you study for the tests exactly like he tells you to you can do well. You can get a B if you put in effort.

He is a really good teacher and very interesting, however, no matter what level class of his you take, he expects way too much. I learned a lot but some things that were due were completely unnecessary and ridiculous.

Overall good guy who has genuine interest in Asia. Very organized & simple (he talks the whole time). You will learn a lot if you try but the grading kills me. Couldn't get past an 8/10 on most of my passports and the feedback does not make it clear why points were taken off. You'll need to put in a lot of effort if you want an A, but its possible.

Weekly homework is graded very hard. Tests are fairly difficult. Also random pop quizes on reading. Be prepared to read about Chinese and Japanese history in text books a couple hours each week. Overall not a terrible class but getting a B requires ALOT of effort. Putting in a decent amount of effort will yield a C in the class.

His class is SOMEWHAT interesting. He occasionally talks about his own life, which is kind of cool because he used to belong to a gang & stuff. But reading is mandatory, thats what the tests are based off of. But you always get the test questions before hand so there is no reason you should fail a test.

He can be a hard grader at times and you MUST attend class because he gives several pop quizzes. He tried to be funny. Exams are completely based off the homework/readings. You need to put forth some effort, but overall it is an easy class and he is a good teacher. I could have done better, but I was a senior and I was swamped with harder courses.

Perez is a great teacher. He tells stories and jokes during class which make it all the easier to pay attention to. The hw is easy and if you do the hw the test will be easy. I recommend taking him I actually learned a lot from this class.

His class was a lot of work for a 100 level. Homework is all about quantity not quality if you want an A on it. He was rude to students in class, and made you feel stupid if you didn't know the answers. I wouldn't recommend this class, take one of the other 104 classes.

Everyone gets either an A or B. It's not that hard. Reading is required though and I'd recommend it only if you're a major. He's a funny/likeable guy.

This professor is really hard! His tests are all written and its almost impossible to get A's on the tests. The information in the class is either really interesting or really boring. Definitely go to the test review sessions, they help a lot. I wouldn't recommend this class unless your a history major or willing to put in the hard work and time.

Do not take this class if you do not need to. I am an A student and I barely made a B-It is nearly impossible to get higher than a C on essay tests and there are written assignments weekly. Reading is mandatory-tests are hard (2 essays and pick 5 IDs. Feels like a 300 level class. Would be interesting for his majors. He has a good sense of humor.

He is a great teacher. But not for a Gen Ed. Take this is you're a History Major. if you aren't, Run like Hell. It's an unbelievable amount of work for a 100 Level class. He knows what he's talking about- but that's the problem. He knows so much more than us and can't understand why we aren't as smart as him. Take something else if you can.

Only take this class if you're willing to do the work. If you can handle a high workload it's not a bad class. Everything he expects of his students is very clearly explained in his syllabus.
