Basically have to teach yourself. What he says in class is pointless. Gives pop quizzes and you have to read 3 books and take quizzes, 2 map quizzes, and a debate with a paper. SO much work for a GE. Hard to understand. An awful 1h15 to sit through.

Very tough grader his map quiz are awful and so much unnecessary work. Extreme memorization is required for this class. Take this class with another professor and you'll avoid a headache and lots of stress!!!

Great guy terrible teacher. Accent makes it difficult to understand him. Says uhhhh every other word. SO MUCH READING. Extremely tough grader. It doesn't matter how much studying you do you won't pass. Treats high-school style class like a lecture, and nothing he says will actually help you on tests. Avoid taking unless you like teaching yourself.

Mr. Luo Xu needs to take a course in speech 101. His lectures are hard to comprehend because how many times he says "uh" "him" and constant stuttering. How is it we pay thousands of dollars to attend an institution and we are being taught by professors whom can't even properly speak our language?

He is a good professor but his class is very hard. His test are some of the hardest I have ever taken and very writing intensive. lots of studying is required. I would not recommend him as a professor.

Dont understand why the rating is so low. He was an AWESOME professor. For a GE class this was very reasonable as it was only a little more work than a high school history class. The two map quizzes nd debates were kind of annoying but other than that all you needed to do was pay attention. Midterm and final are very fair taken directly from review

This class wasn't very hard and professor Xu is pretty nice but the class difficulties came to quizzes. First he gives you 2 map quizzes which are crazy hard theres a lot to memorize but he picks 20 places for you to know. Next he does reading quizzes 3 of them on 3 books so be sure to read carefully and he does chapter quizzes on the text

Luo Xu is an excellent professor. His accent is not difficult to understand at all for anyone with a basic understanding of English. He's a funny guy who brings personal stories into his lectures. Grades fairly and has clear expectations. His exams require a good bit of writing, but he has students well prepared for them, if they put in the work.

He's a good guy but his tests are ridiculous, took him for world since 1500 and didn't pass. Each test is short answer and essay all the information has to come from you. Then there's map and book quizzes which will take you a month to study for and their only worth less than half of your grade.

he really brakes the course down and makes it very easy to understand. even if you cant understand him, the materials are easy to read and helpful. he talks to you about your paper before you write it to make sure you understand, and has you do an ungraded outline. does anything he can for his students, and asks for feed back. i enjoyed his class

Listen you only take this class unless you love history or you are a history major. Luo was the man. As a history major I respect him. very smart, his broken English made it funny, and he understands that. Listen kids it's college do the readings, participate in class and you will be fine.

This guy gets a bad rep because he is a serious teacher. Don't take his class if you don't wanna learn things. He requires you to know and understand material no matter what level class (I took him for world since 1500 and historical methods.) He will make you a better historian.

This class is certainly not easy. It will take effort so if you're looking for an easy A this is not the one. Xu is a good guy, accent isnt that hard to understand although he says some words funny. LOTS of reading required but review sheets before tests tell you exactly what you need to know. Overall, good for those who love History but not others

attendance is mandatory, the class is long boring and dreadful. i couldnt make it through the semester i had to withdraw. his pop reading quizzes suck, the readings are necessary and he is a tough grader who expects you to know way to many specifics for such a large period of history-- he also yelled at me for using my phone just about every day.

This class is so difficult, i would avoid taking it with him if you have to take it. He gives so many quizzes and he gives you map tests where you have to memorize exactly where 100 places are and he only asks you where 25 are on a blank map. Not helpful at all very hard class

Xuo Is a helpful teacher. reading quizzes are mostly pop quizzes (vocabulary mostly). His reading book quizzes are a little tough but read novels and youll actually do fine. Test are pretty tough (mostly essay)but if you go to his reviews and study religiously you wont have a problem.

Yes he is a tough grader on tests. Yet you learn alot from him and his class is enjoyable. Personal stories made class more interesting and he did a good job of making the subject accessible for students. If your looking to take a GE with him stay away but for upper level history he is great.

I took 2 classes w/ him. There were readings due every class that were usually accompanied w/ a quiz. You have to read 3 books and write 2 papers. He grades kinda hard but not bad. I got a 47 on the midterm and went to talk to him. He brushed it off? Hard to understand the guy(accent)but he knows his stuff. I thought I might've failed but I got a B-

This class is terrible, you have reading every night and quizes pretty much once a week on the readings...you also have to read 3 books and write papers for 2 of them....his review sheets for the tests are terrible with 40 terms to know along with ten possible essays...i would withdraw in a heartbeat if i could

If you like to read take this guy. His lectures have nothing to do with the test and you have to read 3 books during the semester, on top of the text reading. About once a week you get a pop quiz on the text and the test are graded hard. If you like reading a B+ or better is very possible. If not dont take this guy
