I took this class online during the summer, so I probably got a very different experience. The class seemed a little intimidating at first because it was so much information to learn in a month, but my grades got better on every quiz. Also, she grades the essays nicer as the class progressed because she gets tired of reading them. Do work early.

I'm so conflicted about Dr. Getz. On one hand she is knowledgable and a good lecturer, on the other hand she is unorganized and strict. I deserved to fail but she helped me out a whole lot throughout the semester. Ton of reading, (all of Democracy in America). Oh and I'm a social worker now. Her class showed me history was not for me...

I really enjoyed taking this class! Dr. Getz gives really great and interesting lectures. As long as you do the reading and come to class you should do well. Also dont be on your phone or computer during class, she really doesnt like that.

Besides the class being based entirely on her own opinion of the world, its down right AWFUL. Lectures are all over the place. She isnt clear. & is condescending when you dont know something. The rudest professor I have ever had. Yelled at 2 students today saying Im in a bad mood Inappropriate & will be talking to the head of the department.

Dr. Getz's class is hard. She assigns readings that are not page-turners. There are only three exams and they're all in-class essays. The research paper is time consuming, but the freedom with it allows you to choose something interesting. Overall, very hard class, but she's a good teacher. Lectures aren't thrilling but they're fairly interesting.

I really liked Dr. Getz! Her lectures are well planned out and very informational. She gives 4 exams which consist of 2 short answer questions and an essay. She also gives a 7-8 page paper that you pick the topic for. If you don't like essays don't take her, but I prefer them. I would take her again!

WARNING** Do not take this class if you want to make a good grade in American History! The majority of the problems lie within the teaching by Dr. Getz and not the course overall. She does not know what she wants in her assignments and grades arbitrarily. I took the class over the summer, and would not wish this on my worse enemy. Good Luck!

Dr. Getz was a harsh grader for this class and the feedback she gave was not helpful. She'll make you feel terrible for getting a B even with the 200+ page reading assignments per week. I had her over the summer, so maybe that had something to do with the class, but I would not recommend taking her.

Dr. Getz knows her stuff but seems to lack in classroom management. The class would often get off on weird tangents that would consume a significant amount of time. The class has 3 tests that involve the writing of 3 essays in 1 hr and 15 minutes, and also a research paper. Getz assigns a lot of reading, but most of it isn't really necessary.

Comment:
Ridiculous amount of assignments in addition to the 20 page senior thesis. You have to read several textbooks and write about a dozen pages before you even start on the senior paper. She's very disrespectful, as well. The seminars feel like an interrogation on the VERY lengthy reading assignments. She is not supportive or helpful.

The grade I received was my fault. I misread due dates and did not realize I wasn't getting the class emails. My problem was her syllabus said she'd take things late for a penalty but the assignment closed right away. Extremely tough grader and prompts aren't easy to write on. Gives lots of feedback but makes you feel bad in it even if you get a B

This is a pretty boring class in all honesty. Not much to talk about. The final is cumulative, so that's annoying. If you do the homework and do okay on tests you should be fine, but the homework is tedious. If you need help, go to her office hours and she'll help you out. Attendance not mandatory, but helpful beyond measure. Know how to take notes

Lynn Getz is not a very good teacher. The subject she teaches is rather easy, which makes her class even acceptable. Her lectures are extremely scattered, and you will never know just what exactly you should write down, or what will be on the test. She also seems to have some sort of inferiority complex.

Dr. Getz is a indescribably horrible professor. Take her if you like long boring lectures, an impossibly difficult grader, and vague test questions. You'll work yourself to death just for a B. She's pompous, degrading to students, and full of herself. Avoid at all costs!!

Just don't take her; save yourself the hassle. Probably the most vague professor I've ever had. To do well in this class, have no expectations for her and regurgitate her opinion every chance you get.

Had her over the summer, so may be different. Very relaxed, seminar style class. Had discussions. Watched films. Wrote papers about lengthy readings, but just pull plenty of evidence to support your argument and you'll make an easy A! She's a great person, very fair&friendly. Loves American Western history bc it's HER history, too. Enthusiastic.

She will tear apart your papers. She will give you questions to answer. You will answer the questions and have the correct amount of words. Then you will think you have a good paper, but she will completely tear it apart and say it isn't good enough. Not well in clarity at all.

I very much enjoyed Dr. Getz's class. She's a great lecturer, clearly lays out her expectations, and gives helpful feedback on written assignments. Reading the textbook is very helpful for the test essays, but most of the information you'll need is laid out in her lectures. I would definitely take another one of her classes.

Its a shame that her rating is low on this site. I viewed them prior to attending her class. She was honestly completely opposite than the rants posted on here. She was very respectful to everyone. She treats people as adults, and we are adults here... I would take her again if given the chance. Workload was rather light. Really enjoyed this class.
