Ciesielski's lectures are terribly boring, but the material he talks about is almost all relevant to the exams. I found just watching Ciesielski lecture and taking notes from his slides after class to be the best way for me to learn. The practice exams are similar to the exams, but look at the slides as well. You don't need to read the book at all.

Not very clear. Supplement the lectures with the slides he posts online. The subject isn't too hard, but don't make the mistake I did of skipping discussion, Prof. Vouvakis isn't a nice guy but he does a far better job explaining the material and basically tells you how to do the homework.

Ciesielski was not very good in the lecture. He was especially bad at answering questions. That said the course is easy enough to get by just reading the lecture slides, the textbook, and going to discussion.

The lecture wasn't very enlightening, and was often quite boring. If you start skipping the lectures, MAKE SURE you read the textbook. Attending the discussion sections is very important if you want to know how to solve the problems.

Half the class slept through every single lecture. I stopped attending halfway through the semester when I realized that I would learn twice as much just reading the slides on my own time (and I was far from the only one). Without discussion sections (prof. anderson!) this class would have been an utter mystery to the vast majority of students.

If you want to see VLSI from the top-view this course is brilliant. Very well executed, a good balance of theory, practicality and use of tools. Its offered every other year, make sure you don't miss it.

lectures were pretty dull. each one was a powerpoint presentation available online. sometimes the slides would be posted online even before the lecture happened. you could read the lecture the night before, and if you understood it, you could skip lecture the next day. he didnt really explain anything much more than the lectures. average all around

Doesnt really teach you how to do projects but the TAs give a crappy VHDL tutorial at the beginning of the sem. Not too specific about projects, but then expects you to code a certain way and takes points off if you don't. Ask the TAs for help/hints. Easy A .
