Hands down the worst prof I've had at carleton. Not helpful in lectures or office hours. Taught myself the whole course before the exam

Just buy a Good digital electronics textbook (150$ minimum) and put in a bit of effort to read the thing from cover to cover and you'll be just fine. And maybe another 100 Youtube videos. Shams as a person is probably a great guy, but the slides and the usefulness of the lectures and class notes is debatable.

Shams is a good professor overall. He has really informative lectures due to the slides that were made by a different prof. The slides can teach you the entire course, however he takes up examples in class and teaches concepts thoroughly. Labs aren't very correlated with course material. Professor is strict but would help if you ask.

Shams has fair midterms and finals. He knows his stuff decently well, however is not good at presenting it. You will most of the class through assignments, labs and pass.

Lectures are boring and slides are awful, I stopped going to class after two weeks. Just search up tutorials online, much easier to learn and takes a lot less time that way.

Bad for 2607, bad for 3500. Still the worst prof I've had in Elec.

Shams... I feel like his course was a sham. "Digital Electronics," you'd think it would be one the most organized, developed courses in electrical eng at carleton.. wrong! Material over a decade old and pretty sure he just wings every lecture. Turning students off digital design. Does seem like a nice guy, is humorous, perhaps unintentionally

Worst prof, no question about it. Gives out almost no examples with a ton of his solutions being incorrect (both 2607 and 3500). Exam is hard, terrible job of preparing students. You can tell he doesn't care. Super ambiguous T/F and MC questions. You'll do much better just reading Knight's slides than going to his lectures, waste of time.

Just horrendous. Lectures are terrible; He just reads off slides (which he didn't even prepare, they were made by an ex prof in 2009). Does not do examples in class, labs take forever for full formal reports, but are only worth 15% of final grade. Don't bother going to lectures; you're better off reading the slides yourself.

Definitely should be fired. Definitely in the top 5 worst profs at Carleton. Tough Grader, Tough exams, doesnt want you to pass, doesnt show up when he says he will, doesnt reply to emails, Worst grader, gives incorrect practice questions and answers, makes the course alot harder than it should be, bad attitude, and simply just the worst professor.

Professor Shams is in his element teaching ELEC 4708 - Advance Digital. The material in this class is not to hard to understand (just go to class), he will give timbits of information about the midtermexam. The labs are long, but fun if this is your thing. He does throw trick questions on midtermsexams, so again attend classes and ask questions.

It's a shame that his delivery of 4601 turns so many people away from 4708. 4601 is a completely useless course (and he knows this), whereas 4708 is excellent and relevant (but VERY demanding in the lab and final exam).

I came to his class one time. I am a student from Ottawa U. I have no clue who he is and how he is as a prof. When I left his lecture I had understood more about microprocessors than a whole course I took at my school.
