Sitting through this class was paintful. When he's not reading directly from powerpoint slides downloaded from the textbook resouce site he is giving wrong information. He has no idea the effort in hours required by his mundane 'typing test' assignments. Quizes & tests are open ended and require memorization of words not understanding the concepts.

Comment:
He is not interested in teaching.A senior level class, important one and you're basically on your own. He asks questions on test that is never practiced in class and you're just expected to know everything. Easier for graduate CS students may be, for undergrads not so much. Often unavailable, and does not seem interested in helping students.

His lectures are boring and hard to follow. He gives you almost zero guidance on the semester-long project that's worth a bulk of your grade. After the first paper, he doesn't even read them. He just grades based on the weight of the document. Out of over 200 credits worth of classes, he is one of the three worst instructors I've had at UNO.

Lectures are dry/boring. But if you take notes, read the book, review the powerpoints, and study, you'll be fine. I was having problems with the final project (due to my own inexperience, despite having taken the prerequisites for the class), but he was unhelpful and slightly demeaning. I actually got that impression from him more than once.

This course was among best 3 courses I learned a lot. professor is very dedicated, Works hard in class and expect a lot from students. Many not so motivated classmates were always complaining because of heavy workload. They were used to easy going professor in UNO.

He reads out of the slides in the classroom. Never tells how the concepts apply in the real world. I wonder if he has ever done applied anything that he teaches. Overall he lacks subject matter and comes across as a rude person. Time to retire and let some one else teach the very important topic of software engineering.

Useless to attend class, in fact attending class and paying attention actually makes it worse. I scored better than members of my group who never missed a class while I was often gone with work/disinterest. He took off 20 points from one problem of another person, while I had the same answer and lost 1 point (21 total)

Easy initial assignments betrayed a rather difficult midterm; semester long group project took the place of these later on. Teacher was hard to understand and often had to be questioned about vague statements in class and in our group project syllabus. He also had difficulties dealing with classroom technology (browser, speakers, projector).

Worst professor I've had. His in class lectures are boring and low quality. Homework assignments are easy but hardly useful. The class project should be fairly easy, even though it is a good bit of work, but his instructions are vague and unclear. If you email him for clarification on anything, he is often rude, and his response isn't helpful.

Boring, doesn't engage the class at all. Power point slides teach the class. Tests contain questions about material not covered in class or in the book. Class project is an insane time sink. Grading is inconsistent two people with virtually the same answers can receive wildly different grades. Stuck in the past. Should be forced to retire.

This professor is horrible. The powerpoints teach the class. The test questions are poorly written at best. A lot of stuff tested on is just what he says, and it isn't in the book or slides. Avoid taking classes from this prof.

This is the most horrible proffessor i have ever encountered with. The subject he teaches should be easy and intersting and but he makes it difficult and boring. And i dont think that anyone has an A from him for a centuries now. And his questions are also not standard. Also what he teaches is ancient.suggestion if possible dont take this class.

He's tough but in reality it's for the best. The real world is tough and I guess he is just getting us acquainted with it. Unlike other professors he cares about his students. Show him that you are willing to work hard and he will show you that he is willing to help you out. Just don't slack off.

Zand is completely unresponsive to student questions, grades so unfairly that his own (often insufficient) lecture slides would get a C, and he doesn't appreciate how much work really goes into the class project. My group spent upwards of 240 hours on our project, and only got a 89 overall. The subject matter really isn't that difficult, Zand is.

All but useless. I'm not sure he has ever applied anything that he is supposed to be teaching us. It's really too bad that somebody like Zand can attain the position that he has.

I'm not so sure what problems others have had with this instructor. I had no difficulties understanding the material, aside from the class being a little slow at times, Dr. Zand seemed to be an effective professor.
