She's really smart and challenging, although a little intimidating at first. I learned a lot from her class and my writing significantly improved. She is one of the best teachers I've had so far, and anyone who doesn't like her is either pissed about their grade, scared of her, or unable to handle her blunt teaching style.

I see all the other comments, so just don't try to be creative in the class. Just do your thesis' on whatever she tells you to do. And she'll give you ideas, just write them in an essay and you get B+ or A's. That simple. Non-conventionial English class.

Considering I wasn't in her class to learn about her brilliance, but to develop mine, she is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She likes to hear her voice too much to care about anyone else's thoughts. Obvious that she thought she was clear in her expectations when she wasn't. But kept things interesting. Note: I did well in the class.

anyone who says she's a "great" teacher has no idea wat their talken about b/c a great teacher actually wants the opinion of others. Clearly brilliant and communicates well with her class, but she has a tendency to simply shoot some students down. Funny and engaging, but only in class. Outside of class, she appears cold and arrogant. Reading assignments are manageable, but her grading system for the papers is a little harsh. Still, you will learn in her class. Recommended.

Prof. Steinkoler rocks! She's an engaging and challenging professor, who's brilliant and demanding - take the class! She's devoted to her students and her combination of seriousness and enthusiasm will awe you. You'll have to work, but it's totally worth it.

Ok, I've had a alot of eglish teachers, and she was probably the worst. Yea she's smart, but she's one of those that "I'm always right and you arent". It's her interpretaion or nothing. I took her both semesters my freshman year because I loved her so much. Yes, she does only teach from a Freudian perspective, but her points are intelligent and true. I am a much better writer since having taken her class and I will never watch movies in the same way I used to. Take her if you can, she's probably the best professor I've ever had.
