I took a few semesters of Russian and had no sense of grammar structure after an intermediate level which is crucial for this language. I walked away with a few memorized poems, she griped at me for taking notes in class, if your passionate about a language - you're better off taking your learning elsewhere.

Mara's a very dynamic woman. If you don't understand how dynamic people work you won't like her. She's ridiculously interesting and smart, loves teaching her students everything about her culture. Like some said, "OLD SCHOOL" but she's Ukrainian. She can be the sweetest woman but she can also be in a bad mood. She's ALWAYS crazy busy. Take Russian!

Mara is a very proper russian. She demands respect. Its not really about getting on her good side, but if your a class clown she might grade you harder She teaches by listening and pronunciation more then anything else, and while she is talking your not allowed to write anything down. And if she likes you she will pick on you to read out loud.

You have to attend class and try your best to gain Dr. Mara's respect. Without that, you won't have anything. I took her for French; it's really not hard. She's very nice once you get used to her intimidating nature. She's an old school, Russian woman. Be polite, and you will learn to love her.

The class is easy enough, but I dropped within the first two weeks because I couldn't stand her. She is extremely rude and maybe even cruel, and will yell at you for wearing a coat in her classroom, among other weird things. If she decides she doesn't like you, drop immediately.

She's intense and has a horrible french accent, but is very knowledgeable and easy-going IF you get on her good side early on. Otherwise, she'll probably be mean to you and will make you feel like an idiot. But, she liked me and her class interested me, so I have no problems w/ her.

Dr. Mara is an incredible teacher. She is incredibly funny and very nice. You must attend class and put forth effort if you want to earn her respect. The quizzes are easy, and it is comparable to a high school Spanish class.

She was extremely tough. You have homework everyday. With all that she requires you to do, and you do it, you will leave the class with a pretty good understanding of the language. And singers sing "u" differently than it's spoken, but get over it and do it the way she wants for class. Geez!

I dropped this class after two days! She is harsh, the first day she yelled at someone for having gum in his mouth before we read the syllabus to know she has a rule about it. She also assigned a 15min. presentation over a culture, with only two days to work on it.tore her apart for 10 min in class!
