Petersen initially comes off as an impossible grader. He really warms up and truly cares about the students who are willing to make an effort. My writing ended up improving a great deal and I got an A in his class. Good readings, interesting class, great professor.

Petersen loves football players. He also loves creative writers and allows us to write about what we find interesting, not what the curriculum wants us to write. Very smart and actually loves his job as well as the students. how could u not give him all 5s?

He loves to read sad or depressed stories. Try to write lots of dialogs in your essays. You don't need a thesis statement in your essay, just write a story. Remember always check his website because he often posts topics on there. Then prepare them in advance. Choose "The Road Home" film to do for your research paper because he loves it.

I do not know how he would be for 1B, but for critical thinking he was a really interesting teacher. The class was sort of confusing, but very interesting. He really opened my eyes to symbolism in books, movies and how to compare them to life. On a diff

Lazy football players will hate his class. For real college students he's not that bad. Yes there are things to read and write, but its a college English class. Go to class so you know what he is talking about. He does not like to help lazy slackers (football) but if you are a good student he will help you just fine. Very reasonable work load.

I really liked this course: he's great. Though he focused on Lance Armstrong and so, the readings are so awesome. He grade on how well your thought-process works and gives you a good grade when you understand the topic. I got an A on most of my papers. Highly recommeded.

Though Prof. Petersen had a strange way of teaching, his class was interesting, a little intense at times, but I thought it was fun. If you do the reading, participate in class, and try to write to the best of your ability, you'll do well in this class. I really liked Prof. Petersen

Worst Teacher. No help at all. When doing essays, with symbolism involved or "opinions" involved, you better think like he does, or else get a bad grade. Can't have your own interpretation, have to have "HIS" insights. It's all about him. Weird guy, something's definitly wrong with his thought process. Get out of his class...

Definitely the worst english teacher I've had, he gives no help at all for his required essays and does not ask if anyone needs help for anything ever. A total oddball, he talks with himself and overall his class is extremely boring and pointless. I would highly recommend getting out of his class.

Would be interesting if your grade didn't depend on it. Class format is: read a book, write a paper, repeat. Doesn't really teach or give instructions, just tells you his thoughts on each book. He expects orignality, but you can't disagree with him, and some (poorly defined) topics are off limits.

Not very clear on assignment instructions. You will be deducted for having opinions that he doesn't agree with. I got a mix of A's and C's on all my assignments, and i don't even know why. His comments on papers are illegible. Very boring guy.

He rarely tells you the requirments for any of the assigned papers and his topics tend to be vafue. He can be interesting, but it gets old after the first 2 weeks. He doesn't do a good job preparing his students for the final exam. If you can, get out of his class!

He made learning fun. That didn't last long. He never gave helpful feedback on papers. My papers were graded based on length and never on content or quality. His expectations for papers make you feel like you can't have an opinion. You have to agree with his thoughts and reasoning. Tough teacher.
