Can be nice, but gets irritated very easily. As long as you are nice as possible to her and work hard, you'll do fine. Only major problem was that she kept bringing personal matters into the class, and called off class quite often due to them without notice.

this has definetly been one of the best classes i have taken at csun. Though the class became tough at times, i truly believe she is a great professor. She was an honor to have as a teacher, because she really loves her job and only wants us to be prepared for the future.

Everyone who said good things ARE LYING!! this was a horrible professor, she is cold, harsh and bitter! i've had teachers that are harsh and i can stand it but not her, she is cruel and heartless. Yes i learned how to publicy speak I suppose and i got a A-, but I'm sure i will never use the format she gave! DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR

Professor Olivas expects a lot from her students. She works hard to make her student the best they can be in regards to public speaking. You will learn a lot from professor Olivas. Her class is a bit difficult, but she is fair. The class is well worth taking. I recommend her for student who really want to master public speaking.

There are few professors who truly care for their students; Professor Margarita is one of them. I had Professor Margarita last year ('05) and I am glad I did. She is committed to help her students. I got to say that I was a bit hesitant at first, but after the first speech I realyzed that I had to take advantage of having an excellent professor.

I took Professor Margarita Olivas' class last year and it was indeed very difficult. However, after overcoming the first speech assignment it all became clear. She was very clear and helpful. At times she was hard on the class but I believe it was all worth it. She really has a passion for her teaching and she only wanted the best for her class

Thanks to Prof Olivas I can speak more clearly in front of a class and can write a well organized 10 page paper. In my class, students who complained were either lazy or were always absent. Prof Olivas is a caring and dedicated prof. If you want to learn, take her class! Her high expectations add to her being strict, but she very fair.

This is not an easy class, so come to class to learn or leave! She is not a monster nor is she a bitter, mean, targeting woman. She's someone who is passionate about what she teaches and doesn't have the time for people who are just looking for an easy "A". At times I wanted to burn her manual, but it really did help me with public speaking.

She is a MUST take professor, if you want a QUALITY education . She will teach you how to properly write and present a speech. The class is not an easy A; but, she is the most helpful professor I've ever had at CSUN in the last 2.5 years because I really learned. After passing course it felt like a great accomplishment in my life.

Go to this class to learn. If not, its not like she wants you there anyways. This isnt a class where the professor will hold your hand all semester. She's one of the best professors on campus. I recomend anyone who is stong, and can handle the pressure to take her. You WONT regret it. Its a great challenge and opportunity for you.

Professor Olivas is a GREAT teacher. She is someone who you may not like at first, but learn to love towards the end of her class. She does go through a lot and she can be moody, but shes just human. We all have bad days. I cant believe how people could say negetive things about her, but i guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

It's true, if you do the work, you will pass the class. However, the manual is very confusing at times. Dr. Olivas definitely challenges her students, which is why you end up really LEARNING. She cares about her students!

I don't know why everyone is bashing her. Coming from a student that is struggling in school, Mrs. Olivas was the kindest teacher i had this semester. She puts on a strict act, but she truly wants to see everyone succeed. You will learn a lot from this class. All you need to do is read the manual and do the work. Not 1 person failed. Take her!!!

All the comments here are true- good and bad. She's evil mean and nasty, completely confusing and will make your semester a living hell. However it is true that you will learn a hell of a lot and it will help you in the long run. The course manual is a disaster, and she can't get her days or times or decisions straight. It's all a mess...

you either like her or dont like her. She doesn't answer questions and tells you to look in the manuel that is always changing. She is frustrating and always gives you sob stories. don't take her unless you have to and then you got to do ALL of the work and suck up to get a good grade.
