She is really nice and will do everything possible to make you feel comfortable in her class. She gives a fair amount of homework and the tests are fairly difficult, but if you honestly try to learn Spanish it is not hard to receive an A. You will be expected to speak and understand Spanish in class, so be prepared, but do not be intimidated.

Was really nice, but the amount of homework was a little much. Also, there was a lot of reading out loud. A lot of group work and sharing with the class.

I took Professor Castillo for two semesters and would gladly take her again if i could. The class can be tough at times but that is only if you aren't willing to learn. She has a lot to teach and is good at what she does. She loves when you participate and that alone will get you far in her class. Just do the homework and participate!

Yes, she primarily speaks in Spanish as the semester goes by. But that's how you learn a language people! Is this class easy? Nope. Is it terribly hard? Nope. All you have to do is put forth the effort and speak a little Spanish in class and do some easy HW assignments. My Spanish has gotten much better by simply being in her class for 2 semesters.

I had Professor Castillo for Mapping Hispanic Cultures I. She is a very knowledgeable teacher and cares a lot about her students. I am taking the second section of class with her next semester and can't wait. She grades everything and gives great feedback. Speaking in Spanish is essential for an A.

This is supposed to be the third Spanish class after two preliminary classes. Unless you have two years of high school Spanish do not take this class. There is no syllabus covering exactly what material to study. We only made it to chapter 3 of a $175 book. You will do activities speaking Spanish and then the test will be to write a essay on Peru!

Nice teacher but if you didn't grow up speaking spanish you're going to be irritated with this class. She speaks in straight Spanish the entire time and it makes you wanna bang your head on the desk. Plus the homework is effing ridiculous and annoying. I honestly hated this class, if she wasn't nice I would've dropped it in the beginning.

Castillo was a nice lady, but kind of an annoying professor. You cannot come a minute late to class without her locking the door, and then she complains folks who are late are a distraction because they have to knock to get in... She is an extremely tough grader, makes tests difficult, and gives more work than any other language teacher I've had.

I am so happy to have had Maria as a teacher. She is fun and genuinely interested in whether or not you are learning. I don't think I've ever had a better professor. I took her and was completely awful at Spanish, but still managed to get a B. Make it your business to take a course with this professor.

I absolutely love this woman. She is so sweet and hilarious and makes class fun everyday. She has a true passion for language and for teaching and she makes that very clear. I am going to miss her more than just about any other teacher that I have ever had after this semester is over.

Not taking any spanish classes prior to this was a mistake. She spoke in Spanish the entire time only breaking now and then to speak in english. It was a fun class, going to this class was like a break from school. Got to interact with the other students all the time. Wrote notes to us on what we needed improving and what we were excelling at.

I had her for Spanish AND English over the last Summer semester. She is really smart and knows what she is doing. Just go to class and pay attention. She hates nothing more than people who don't want to be there.

i love castillo. she's the sweetest lady. 3 things she doesn't like is when people text, are late for class, or don't try to speak spanish. if you attend class and participate, you will definitely pass. I can't wait to take her next semester for mapping 2

She was amazing! Took her for a summer semester and really feel like I learned a lot! Almost entirely group work, but we did fun things like play musical chairs. Interactive class that I would recommend to anyone who needs a language.

I'm not the best judge because I'm terrible at Spanish, but I wasn't impressed. Really tried hard but she was all over the place, and was not willing to help when I'd ask for help personally whether it was after class, office hours, etc. She knows her stuff but she seems too frazzled--seemed to work better with the students who didn't need help.

She's a great teacher. I took her for Beginning 2, and i'm taking her next semester too. She gives a lot of homework, but only because she really wants you to learn. If you just do the homework, come to class, and pay attention, you'll do fine. Definitely take her!

I had Castillo for Beg 2 and I can't wait to take her again. She understands that not everyone wants to be fluent and always explains things. She reviews a lot, which is good in a foreign language. She tells stories about her life, etc in Spanish which is more interesting than the lesson but is really helpful with comprehension.

She lost my test and originally gave me a C but later changed it to a B. Very unorganized and very stressed from her 5 kids. She gives a lot of hw and sometimes doesnt collect it. i'm taking her over the summer just so i dont have to deal with spanish anymore. if u never took spanish dont start with her teaching.
