Olcott is amazing! Her class is really easy so long that you attend both lecture and seminar, pay attention, and keep up with the readings. She's more than willing to help during her office hours and she's really understanding if she knows you're trying your best. I love her and I wish I could have her again!

Comment:

As with all the other Humanity professors, Olcott could be one of the best teachers you'll ever have. She always makes sure that you leave with a life lesson. The work for her class isn't bad. A journal writing about once a week and a research "speech" sometime in the semester. She and the other professors are another benefit for the program.

She's the most lenient prof I've ever had! Class is funny and she keeps you engaged. The only difficult part is the writing - she's very strict in that aspect. The rest is easy - she lenient in grading exams. The speech was a conversation with her during office hours. If you write according to her style and follow her suggestions you'll get an A.

I love this teacher. She is demanding but absolutely brilliant and funny. She will expect you to write well, but will be flexible with your schedule. She loves to teach. I learned tons and will take more classes with her whenever I can!

Olcott is pretty awesome. She's really passionate about what she loves and class was always fun. She's been willing to help me with just about anything both when I was in her section and when I wasn't. I really enjoyed her class and want to take one of her language courses in the future

Olcott is simply awesome. Her jokes will keep you engaged in class ans she is always willing to help, all you need to do is ask. I loved having her as a professor; my whole class did not want her to leave us but instead be our professor for all 4 semesters of the Honors program. She is the best!

LOVE THIS TEACHER! She listens to students and is passionate about her subjects. Knowledgeable and helpful. She actually cares how you're doing and is willing to go the extra mile to help out. I adored Olcott! Like some raters before her, she's completely wild and tends to play favorites; but I must honestly say she is one of the most amazing professors available at SJSU. She loves teaching, ideas, and you. She can be a bit blunt, but she is honest. I still consider her a mentor and come to her for advice and help. <3!

Excellent professor, with a real concern for students. She uses real world examples students can relate to in order to explain difficult material. Class discussions really help reinforce the material. Is crystal clear on what information she wants you to know. Re: writing, she is more concerned with your ideas and will help improve your writing.

Olcott is wild. She is one of the best teachers ever if you learn by having fun and discussing stuff about the text. Just go to class and talk to her about what she wants from your writing and its totally easy. You don't even have to turn in something right on time if you want more time to work on it. (but if you dont show up you're screwed!)

Geez...talk about eccentric. She's crazy sometimes really. But she can be cool if she likes you so stay on her good side. Go to class! if you skip, she notices. And if she notices, well thats not going to be fun for you. She didnt keep a record of the assignment grades and then ended up estimating our final grades. And I got the short end of the stick

Olcott is unresponsive to student's needs and concerns. In seminar she will cut students off to give her own opinion. Plays favorites! Rude in office hours... I had an academic concern and yet she was more interested in visiting with past students instead of helping me out. Lectures are filled with opinions and not facts.

Olcott is a great teacher. I made the mistake of skipping class a couple of times and she called me on it. However, she is the first teacher in Humanities Honors that I feel helped me grow academically. Be prepared to write every day and always double check how she wants you to do something. She's not the clearest when it comes to that.

Comment:

I hated humanities with a total passion. Philosophy bores me, the literature was so hard to get through, and there was just so damn much of it! I enjoyed every session I had the semester our group had her. She was so interesting and so REAL. If something was crap, she called it what it was. I even participated in her discussions. I slept through most of the other professors.
