She is a great prof. She is very opinionated and an expert in this field. Some of her opinions were out there, but she could always back herself up and has a clear passion for teaching. The only thing is that she tends to ramble, but makes up for it by providing great reviews for tests and exams so you know exactly what you need to know.

Seriously, the best sociology teacher I have had at Dalhousie. She is so funny and makes class very interesting. If you take a class with her, you will never want to skip class.

I love Gender Studies & Sociology classes but I find her classes to be extremely boring! She doesn't listen to the opinions of her students and her lectures do not illuminate the course material at all. She used lectures to rant about her personal experiences. She's a good person but a bad prof. I would NOT recommend her.

I loved this prof. She is very, very passionate about her beliefs and course material. A strong feminist. Test were a bit challenging. The textbooks were mostly interesting, and assignments allowed me to express creativity and personal perspective. I would recommend this course and prof to anyone.

I absolutely love her. She is not an easy marker and her exams are more difficult than you expect them to be, but fair. She is a strong feminist and I dig this (I'm not sure what "too feminist," as some of the other reviews mention, means). She is passionate about her field and it shows. Her lectures are so much fun.

Nightmare professor. Says that she won't judge you for your opinion but clearly does. Not in a "challenge you to think" way, but a "your opinion is inferior" way. Ridiculous assignments. Talks about certain topics like she's an expert and she CLEARLY isn't.

Straightforward and interesting to listen to. Yes, she goes off on a tangent at times (w/ funny stories!! it's a nice break..) and yes, her opinions are quite strong, but this separates her from so many other profs who just get the job done. Clashing opinions are not used against you grade wise, so who really cares? TAKE HER!

Amazing text, great tutorials, ad good choice of film's to include in class content. Not a very good prof though. I really can't take the tangents about her social life, whether or not they apply to the material. Tests were much to easy and probably don't help out those who aren't interested in this material beforehand.

Easily the worst professor I've had here so far. She's so incredibly closed-minded it hurts. Her lectures are ridiculous and taken right from the textbooks. Really wish I had never taken this course. Completely agree that she is the reason people hate feminists.

I love her class; she does tend to get on tangents sometimes which are slightly distracting but overall, she is excellent. A lot of material comes straight out of the textbook but she always adds her own anecdotes to the lecture that are funny but get the point across. Some of the material is pretty boring but she makes the class interesting.

Awesome woman! I thought 3 hours of sociology would be an absolute bore. Not the case. marianne keeps your attention in class. She's engaging and comedic in her delivery. Lots of opportunity for class discussion. Loved her anecdotes. Would definitely take more classes from her.
