Comment:

She is a good prof, just goes over the material very fast. It starts off really easy then speeds way up, I had trouble with the last 2 lessons. Compositions are hard, and the final is way too long. But she is passionate if you put in the work you'll pass with a decent grade but it's definitely not a GPA booster.

She is very intense. Always have to be in class. An excessive amount of work you have to do. You have to memorize each word from each chapter, memorize the translations to english and the expressions. Had to memorize around 20 questions for the oral exam. The final was 10 pages long. The class is a lot of work.

Professor Mark was an absolute gem. I know French so learning Spanish wasn't too difficult. She genuinely cares about how her students learn the language. She makes it easy; HOWEVER, you need to put in the effort of practicing vocabulary and sentence structures at home. She's low-key hilarious. Attendance mandatory, but she makes it worth it.

Comment:

Hands down my favourite professor I've had for university so far! Cares a lot about her students and makes learning a new language very interesting. There is a lot of work, but she has a great sense of humour and gives lots of opportunities for marks. Would recommend to anybody wanting to learn Spanish.

Took for 111 as well and transferred into her 112 class because I loved her so much. She gives you lots of opportunity to succeed in her class. Very clear grading criteria, and she's hilarious.

I very much enjoyed Professor Mark. She makes her lectures so fun and interactive, a 2.5 hour class really becomes enjoyable. She is very helpful and very interested in helping you learn the language. Also, she's hilarious! Some quizzes that she really prepares you for, and just be prepared for homework (it is a language after all).

Had her for SPAN112 and SPAN211 and will have her again for 212. Tough marker, tons of info at a very fast pace but she is passionate about people learning the language. Difficult to get a high mark with so many assignments and homework due every class. Must put in a huge amount of work to see a good result.

All these negative reviews are super odd. She's super nice and answers every single question with a positive attitude. For have a 2 1/2 hour class she makes it very enjoyable. A lot of short quizzes and at least one assignment every week. Also TONS of memorization in a short amount of time. Not for those (like me) who don't put in a lot of studying

She's lovely. The ratings made me question taking her class but I love her. She's so helpful and she really wants her students to learn. If you put in an effort and practice often, you will get through the class with flying colours.

Assigns way too much homework and walks around to each student to assure we did the homework basically treats you like you're in grade school. Very condescending and tough grader. If you don't want to enjoy learning Spanish then take this class with maritza.

Comment:

Maritza can be a great prof some days and an ice queen on others. Sometimes she can be incredibly condescending & rude to students who ask questions, but other times she makes class fun and exciting, and she tries hard to get you to love Spanish. You'll have to work hard for a good grade, she's tough, but it's possible. Just be wary of 'off' days!

Maritza is one of the worst instructors I have ever had. She made a language class seem like a chore where is should be interactive and fun. I worked hard and received a B+. She isn't helpful at all and is very condescending. I wouldn't recommend taking her class if you plan on learning anything.

Passionate professor and gives a a lot of in class participation based assignments which really help in acquiring the Spanish language. However she is an extremely hard marker and do not expect to get over a B-. If you get a 75% you are lucky and she will say you are at the top of the class. You will learn the language but it will cost your GPA

Older comments made me worry about taking her course but I'm glad I did! Passionate/organized teacher. Comes across as strict sometimes but has great sense of humour/made a fun class environment. I had a long class twice a week and sometimes what we'd learn on tues. would be on on tests thurs. Advice: memorize vocab early/read ahead and do workbk.

If you come to class ready to learn and participate, I think you will like Maritza. While she does treat chattering people a bit like you would expect a high school teacher to, she is very involved in what she is doing, and personally that made me involved as well. I found her to be a great teacher, that is, great at TEACHING. Enjoy

She is a nice person. I found her to be selective towards the people she liked in class. I found her patronizing at times, and assuming based on some people. Not impressed with the attitude. Overall, I liked the class, but maybe personality clash? I couldn't wait to finish my sememster. Maybe another time with a different instructor.

She was very intimidating at first and the class overall was challenging but she makes the 5 hours a week in class interesting and tolerable. Classes are fast paced and no time is wasted but helped to improve my spanish ALOT. Now I wish I had her the first semester as well.

Very hard marker. Be prepared to get a B- at the highest. She's helpful, but will make you feel like an idiot in class and insist you see her in office hours. She listens to student comments very well, and will help the students the way they want. However, if you want an A in your language class, don't take a class with her.

I has this prof for only 2 classes and during that second class I could not run fast enough to the computers to change my schedule. She snaps her fingers all the time to get your attention and even sometimes in your face! She forever shouts BASTA BASTA! and taps her white board marker on the board to get your attention. rude and inconsiderate -RUN!
