Means well for sure, smart, but impossible to work with in advanced work and prepping for academic training. He can be a brick wall of traditional opinion. It's fortunate he only has undergrads and isn't training grad students, they would be intellectually crippled. He's kind, he's just ... impenetrable

Amodio is hilarious and it makes slogging through translation fun. He's also crystal clear in his expectations and correspondingly a surprisingly gentle grader when you follow the instructions closely and clearly make an effort. He's not gonna work you to death, he just wants to see someone give a crap. Knows literally everything about Anglo Saxons

Amodio turned me on to a culture, history, language and form of life which I never knew much about or appreciated until I took his class. Reading, translating and discussing Beowulf for a semester with Amodio is one of the best things you can do for yourself. If you went to Vassar to gain a vision of the world, then take a class with this man.

Oh my gosh, I love him. He does a fantastic job of illuminating difficult texts and his enthusiasm is just so genuine. Class discussions are fun and Amodio draws all these cool, crazy connections out of the wide variety of literature we cover. Take any class with him that you can!

Clearly the most amazing professor ever. Funny, intelligent, helpful, approachable... knows his subject damn well but isn't stuck-up about it. He's very friendly and outgoing and interested in you as a human being, not just a student; he'll talk to you for hours about anything. Mark Amodio is my new best friend!
