Comment:
Dr. Baker is extremely knowledgeable and expects you to have the same enthusiasm about the subject. He is Canadian and I like his humor! But, I think that it was a lot of material to learn and I had to study a ton to boost my grade up. Regardless, he is a kind man but with high expectations. With determination & self-application you will pass.

Excellent class!! One of my favorites I have taken at CSUB. Mark is so knowledgeable on the subject and pushes his students to look deep into materials for meaning. Read four texts that really opened up the subjects of WWI, WWII, and the Cold War for me. I would recommend him to anyone!! I only wish there were more classes I could take with him!!

He was a very hard prof. Prolly the only way you'll get an A on this prof is if you're a History major. He's the first prof who has given me a C on a paper. Very hard to please esp in writing essays.

Baker is etremly biased, he has a lot of knowledge but does not focus it clearly. The book we used for the class was written by one author and was also mostly opinion and so in a lot of cases Baker did not agree with dates and other detail which made it harder on the tests.

Absolutely awesome teacher! Knows a ton about all kinds of stuff and it shows in the diversity of the classes he teaches. I personally find it kind of ironic that he is a Canadian who teaches parts of American history. Very helpful in all aspects of his class. Has all necessary materials online for easy access. Definitely a teacher worth taking.

Mark is very intelligent but he spouts off some of the most unfounded liberal ideals i have ever heard, and thery are about everything. He teaches history very well and is very helpful out side the class room, but overall he has a superiority complex and only respects graduate students. Oh and he is very random on his testing style of essays.

I have very mixed feelings about this professor. His ppts were great cuz you could print them out before class and take less notes. But a lot of times he seemed to only be using the ppts and not adding any extra info. Also many of his comments were somewhat biased and he tries to be funny, so u just kind of roll your eyes. Would not take him again.

mr baker talks too long and is very cynical to the point where you want him to turn around so you can walk out of class. harsh grader, he might seem like a nice guy on stage but when you talk to him 1 on 1 he is very rude and please.dont talk during his films. he also likes to call individuals up and put the on the spot.

When he does teach, he has great things to say. In fact, I really like to hear what he has to say. But he has student teachers, and discussions which basically I learned little to nothing. I read all the material, studied in groups, and still got a mediocre grade. I say this because if he actually lectured, I believe it would be a different story.

Very hard teacher, and harsh grader!Take him ONLY if you are a History major or else you will be lost. He has very high expectations, and requires A LOT of work (espcially reading).EuroHist is enough for one quarter b/c it's difficult to keep up, so if you take it make sure you're not enrolled in any other classes b/c it's extremely time consuming

Really nice guy, helpful teacher, and goes out of his way for students who ask for help. You have to read though to pass the class because the quizes can bite you in the butt if you don't.

This guy is pompuous. this class is required for history majors. It's like he doesn't want anyone to graduate. His comments are not helpful and his expectations are unclear. Never have I recieved such demeaning comments on any of my work! His grading rubric is comprehensible to only him. He needs to go back to Canada. Total pain in the ass.

Awesome teacher. He is very easy going caring and a great professor. I hated history before I took his class and he made the class enjoyable and fun. He can also bake some good chocolate chip cookies<---which he made for us often it was an 8 am class!!!

I guess he's hot. I like his bald head. Seriously, Baker is awesome though. He had a Ph.D from Harvard, a cool family, knows a lot about vodka, and he lived in the Ukraine. Also, he is very tall and good at basketball. Despite his difficult classes, he truly is a caring man who genuinely wants to see his students succeed.

His lectures are worth going to class for. He is very entertaining and enthusiastic about his subject. Just don't ask him anything an american historian should know, because he won't!

he stuck by the syllabus & readings, was also very clear about what he expected on tests & essays. it also helped that he was interested in the subject he was teaching.
