My class was full of kids who had a hard time with public speaking. He made the environment very welcoming and fun, and was very understanding with hardship. One of the best teachers on campus, hands down.

I was terrified to take the required Speech class for graduation, but Professor Culhane made it more like getting to know friends. By the end of class even I was up in front giving a speech with no anxiety. Who would have thought?

Would not recommend! Yes, the class is very laid back meaning he teaches you NOTHING! Then he gives a study guide and expects you to teach yourself, then when you actually study for the exam, the "study guide" has absolutely nothing to do wit the exam!

Best class ever. Don't get the book. He gives you a study guide for the mid-term and final, just google the terms. He curves them both like crazy. There's one easy paper for a group assignment. Then you give a few speeches. He goes off on rants, and tells really interesting stories. The class is extremely laid back and awesome.

Nice guy, good guy. Class is very easy, just 1 small paper, two impromptu speeches (minute and a half walk up and talk), two actual speeches, and a midterm and final. Tests can be difficult but he gives a nice curve on them plus a study guide a week in advance. He tends to ramble on about unrelated stories, but is generally funny about it. Take him

Mr. Culhane is so funny! Very interesting man and he makes everyone feel comfortable and at ease. I'm terrified of giving speeches, but with him as the teacher, makes it much easier. He doesn't judge anyone and he is very laidback. BEST Speech teacher EVER!

Great teacher! I had no desire to take this class but was glad that I had. Culhane does tell a lot of stories but if you pay attention they expand on and coincide with content in the textbook. The classroom was a comfortable, laid back environment which helped make giving speeches seem easy.

I ended up taking this class my first semester b/c all of the English classes were filled up. I'm so glad I did though! He's a very interesting person and you'll probably hear more about stories from his past than anything, but he's very lenient and tries to make the class as easy as possible for those that are scared of public speaking.

Mr. Culhane is a nice older man who really helps you get over your fear of giving speeches. He lets you pick the topics and teaches his class in a way that is relaxing and not stressful, so your anxiety of giving speeches is lowered. If i had to take another speech class Mr. Culhane would be my only option. Love him!!

A fair teacher that has much experience but tells stories about his life for 95% of the class. Watch out as during those stories, as when midterms and finals approach, you will be told that you must know things you only discussed once briefly. If you are not a democrat...prepare to bring aspirin.

Friggin awesome professor. I really liked the way he taught speech. Instead of getting caught up in all of the lingo and concepts, he emphasizes the importance of a human connection between the speaker and the audience. Oh yeah, and it was easy.

Amazing teacher. I hate giving speeches, this guy makes you feel like you can say anything (without being judged)He is def. the teacher to take for speech. Very easy to talk to if u are having any problems, he works with you. He understands life situations and that a high percentage of ppl aren't comfortable speaking in public. He is awesome!

Mark culhane is a very interesting man to say the least. This class should not be called Speech 131, it should be Intro to Mark Culhane. DO NOT take this class if you are offended mby profanity. Overall he is a nice man; however, don't expect to learn a thing about communications! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
