I got an A+ in this class, but was miserable every step of the way. I literally had physics-related nightmares and physics-induced stomach aches. Tons of work, super-high stress level, incredibly hard to follow lectures.

He teaches and covers information at a very fast speed. You must read the book to absorb all of the knowledge from the topic. His tests are very hard and he does not curve his grades.

Comment:
As has been said, avoid at all costs. Koepke is a bit condescending in his tone. He doesn't teach the concepts well, choosing instead to do practice problems. This was not helpful for me, and as a result, caused me to teach myself everything I needed to know in the class. His tests aren't particularly easy, either.

Two words: Stay Away! Take Edwards if at all possible! Koepke is very smart at physics, just not good at teaching it

Horrible Teacher. Please dont take if you have the choice, I didnt. Give the easiest problems in class as examples, then for the test they are the hardest possible. Smart teacher, but should not be teaching an entry level class.

I had PHYS 111 in Fall '07, and I've never experienced Dr. Koepke being rude or unreasonable. He seems to be very interested in physics and explains basic concepts thoroughly in a lot of detail. Tests are somewhat difficult, but out of 6 problems, you get to drop the worst problem. Then, you drop the worst test. A lot of partial credit, too.

I agree...he is the worst professor I had in my entire four years at WVU. He is willing to go out of his way to help, but test material isn't what we even learned in class. The class started with 60 students...and he made it his job to fail and get rid of students that we had 8 in my class by the end of the semester. I had to stay to graduate

I started off failing this class..but ended up getting a high B. If you go to class, go to the help sessions, ask questions etc.. you are going to get a great grade. His tests were difficult, but very fair. Physics is an interactive subject, if you don't want to study you won't do well with any physics teacher. Very animated, very good teacher.

I nice enough guy, my only complaint is that his tests are so hard. Not that it is a small complaint, I dropped his class because I failed both of the first 2 tests even after I studied for them. It's not that he grades hard it's that he gives you the hardest questions possible and won't tell you what to study before the test. Only what chapter.

Mark Koepke is the worst tearcher I have ever had in my hole life. Not only does he make physics not fun, he makes it impossible. He Will teach you one thing, and test you on another. HE DOES NOT CURVE HIS CLASS. HE DOES NOT CURVE THE TESTS this man sucks at life. He studys the scores of the test and makes them in attempt to fail a % of the class.
