Mark is a awesome teacher I had to take a music class and I was nervous about it but it turned out to be a great class . If you take Mark you wont be disappointed.

Mark Latham only cares about his preferred type of music. He uses profanity very often in his class, seems very unhappy, unapproachable, lectures and tests/quizzes only, an occasional movie with a following quiz. Avoid taking MUS5 with Mark. Very boring, dry class.

It baffles me that people say he is a nice person because he is nothing but rude to the students in my class. He treats us like we are idiots who know nothing about good music. He is critical about our personal taste in music. However if you show up to class and do the assignments, its an easy class to pass. Took Music 5 with him.

Took 2 classes with Latham and enjoyed both he takes his job seriously it's slot of power points and YouTube videos mixed in with lecture which made it more interesting like others have said grading is tough but if you show up and do the quizzes it's pretty hard to get below a b I think I got an A in music 5 and a B on classical music good teacher!

I'm a longtime music student & I LOVED Mr. Latham! He is a genuinely nice guy & very passionate about his classes. He is a hard grader, he takes roll & will mark you absent if you leave, he expects college level effort, & he should! Music is hard at times, & your attention is not too much to ask for. Be respectful/interact & you will be rewarded!

This teacher sucks. Gave me a B even though I was ONE POINT away from an A! My grade was an 89.8% yet he didnt round it which is bull. Even worse I was absent for ONE DAY and that was the day we had a 10 point quiz which he said I couldnt make up, even though on the syllabus, it says its OK TO MISS 1-2 days for emergencies! Yet he doesnt mention th

I took a beginning piano class. I practiced as much as I could(which was not a lot). Mr Latham saw how much I trying and even though I panicked on the final he gave me a B in the class. He is a very supportive guy and is not as scary as he seems the first two weeks.

Most of the semester was what you would expect, powerpoints with demonstrations of different music styles. All tests were online except for the final. Was told to review the PowerPoints online for the final, and the test mostly contained questions from sources other than the PPs. Most of the class is easy, but look out for the curve balls.

The piano class Mark teaches is pretty relaxed. If I needed help or had questions about how something should be played he was willing to help, often recommending certain interpretations to help train the ear. The trick is practice. Theres almost no instruction, just time to go in and practice a piece for the 3 recitals that make up your grade.

I would not recommend taking this instructor!! He seemed as if we were wasting his time! i pointed out the fact that he graded my test wrong and a lot of questions were right and he yelled at me for wasting my class time pointing this out. When it came down to it the whole class failed and his key was wrong. So many things i could say.....

I do not recommend taking this class first thing in the morning. Very laid back professor whom is very into his course, but material can be very hard to learn and retain if you don't pay very close attention and study. He does make you go to a course related concert and write a paper on it.

Good teacher gets really passionate and into his stories and descriptions of different music and decades actually saw him crying after a song from his generation. all and all easy class show up listen to music take online quizzes write two papers in the semester very simple

This teacher is very informed in American Popular music his class is very easy in its work but its really your choice if you really commit it to memory or not. All the tests are online as well as his lectures in powerpoint and PDF format. Only two papers a concert report and a your choice 1500 word. Mark had ups and downs in mood, though not bad.

He was an OK teacher. It was basically- here is a piano and a book, get to work. He never came to the piano to look at how how we played or to help, just listened with his headphones and moved on. There are three "recitals" for tests and he says he is very patient and to take your time, but he huffs and sighs a lot in the corner if you screw up.

Terrible time. The Class had little do do with Appreciating all styles of music, instead it focused on american popular music, which is a different class created my Latham, but he cant seem to separate himself from it. Also watch out because he will make things due without thoroughly telling the class about it.

so this professor is very unorganized. No defined due dates, everything is just on a wim,watch out you can have a great grade in the class. Also he teaches american popular music too much in this section which is totally wrong because he already teaches that class during another time, but he wastes over half the semester on it.
