LOTS OF READING! I made the mistake of waiting until the readings were actually assigned instead of looking at the syllabus ahead of time and I only had 2 days to read all of Othello. Sparknotes will be your best friend in this class. All of the reading is required because he gives pop quizzes at least once a week. His almost put me to sleep a lot.

Hands down, the very best professor at MCLA. Dr. Miller will push you to be the best writer you can be, so do not view his rewrites as negatives. Just do the reading and come prepared, and PARTICIPATE often. Be an active listener, show him you are interested, that you care, and do the rewrites... and you will pass with flying colors.

He's the best teacher I've ever had. I did already love to read, but taking his class sparked an interest I had thought I'd lost in Poetry. He lets you revise your essays, which is really helpful. He also writes extremely detailed comments and corrections!

Took his Intro. to Lit class on TR. Very dedicated professor. As a freshman English major, I found his class to be helpful. Yes, he is extremely monotone; however, he is a very caring professor. His class is not anything to underestimate, but if you follow his "What I Want" policy, you will do well. I ended with a B. I do recommend.

Fantastic teacher. He is obviously passionate about the material he teaches. The insight he offers is tremendous. He does, however, require a lot of work in the form of micro assignments and very tough papers. It isn't just busy work, though, its genuine thoughtful work which he will read and criticize very thoroughly. Not for lazy students.

Bring your own humor. Speak up; don't wait for him to call on you or he WILL be boring. He edits your papers until it's a blur of red. Do a lot of rewrites; it's nothing personal. He doesn't expect much. If you improve, he will take it into account. He is very insightful and smart. He appreciates double meanings and metaphors.

Extremely intelligent man. His classes are incredibly challenging, and a high level of work is necessary for a good grade. Night classes can be brutal because of his droning monotone voice. He loves to lecture on and on for hours. Sometimes his lectures are interesting and inspiring and other times they are very boring and dry.

I think Prof. Miller is getting a bum rap here. Take a creative writing class with him and you'll see what an amazing teacher he can be. He's insightful, creative, and constructive. Yes, in other classes he can drone on, but not because he wants to. It's because no one talks! If the class participated, he'd be livelier.

This man loves the sound of his own voice, and does *not* want to hear anyone else's opinion on anything. He is pompous, and misinterprets literature, and grades according to whether he agrees with your opinion or not. Unfortunately, this class is a requirement for English majors.

It was a 3-hour class, 100% lecture! At first I liked his jokes, but once I got graded assaignments back and had to sit through so many night classes, I hated it. All papers are written in class. He doesn't teach analysis, he just does it in front of us, then expects us to know how to do it ourselves in class. He has no faith in his students. BORIN
