Comment:
This professor provided the most frustrating experience I have ever had in education. Material not hard, but he was. Vague feedback, and directly contradicted himself on subsequent feedback. Arbitrary and incomprehensible grading. Identical comments accompanied a "B" and an "A+" paper. Worse, he refused to explain rubric for assignments. Refused!

Dr. Montesano clearly breaks down the argument for you in his syllabus. Many people had trouble with what he wanted in the journals but if they paid attention it was clearly stated in his syllabus. Very simple course. He's prompt in responding to your emails and any concerns. Do what he says and expects of you and you will be fine!

FANTASTIC PROFESSOR! Funny, interesting, and truly cares about his students and the course material. Not an overwhelming work load, but you definitely can put in some time. A lot of this class is what you make it.

This class was a struggle for me, BUT it was human event and I think that's expected. Montesano is hilarious, knowledgeable, and helpful. It's everything you could want in a professor. PARTICIPATE!! It counts almost as much as papers! Also if you go to his office hours for papers he's extremely helpful... do it!

Dr. Montesano is one of the best teachers I have ever had! His human event classes fill up super quickly so try and get him as soon as possible! He is a tough grader for the first essay but the next revision and essay are made super easy. He makes this class fun and he is a nice professor thats easy to talk to!

Montesano was one of the best HON171 and HON272 professors. People fight their way into his classes. He will destroy your first essay, but gives helpful feedback so your next two essays are a piece of cake. He is a fun guy and easy to talk to when you need help. He definitely made a boring class worthwhile.

Dr. Montesano is hands down the best Human Event Professor. People have fought to get into his class. The readings are heavy and he will demolish your first essay but the class gets better from there. I also recommend taking him for HON 272, because that class is monumentally easier than 171. Overall, he's a fun-loving guy and you'll learn a lot.

Professor Montesano is not only a fantastic teacher, but an incredibly intelligent and caring person. His Human Event classes can be tough to get a spot in, but I encourage you to try to get into his class. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Professor Montesano.

Comment:
The material is challenging and there is a lot of reading every week, Montesano does a great job of making class discussion interesting. The first essay is difficult and he will more than likely rip it apart, but instead of a second essay, there is a revision conference where you have the chance to fix it. Very helpful during his office hours.

Comment:
Dr. Montesano's ability to teach beyond a freshmen level is stunted. Taking an upper level class with him of any kind, or having him as your thesis adviser will prove disappointing. Though this may sound extreme in respect to the other reviewers, please note that the other reviewers are predominantly freshmen and/or not humanities students.

One of those professors you'll always remember. This course is killer, but Montesano makes it so much better. He will destroy your first essay, but you'll get so much better at writing it really doesn't matter. Probably the best professor at ASU, and without a doubt the best Barrett Honors faculty member.

One of my favorite professors at ASU! I wish he offered more classes. There's a lot of reading but you can get away without doing all of it, just do enough so you have something to write notes on and contribute to discussion. There is one 7 page essay due at the end of class which I thought was graded very fairly. Do the work and you'll do well.

Montesano is one of my favorite teachers at ASU; his class is very fun and it really is not that much work. With this being said Montesano is an essay killer; he grades incredibly hard and only 4 people received B's on our essays. (no one received an A)

TAKE THIS HUMAN EVENT PROFESSOR. Everyone who doesn't get in to his class first semester fights to get in second semester, and almost never does. I've been lucky enough to have him both semesters and he's awesome. TAKE HIS CLASS.

Dr. Montesano is an excellent professor; the class isn't a cakewalk, but he is generally very nice and welcome to giving help to students. You have to participate in order to do well in the course; the essays, like all human event classes, are challenging -- and he generally gives out the fewest A (on essays) of any of the HE professors.
