Mark was a great teacher. You have to put forth effort in the class, but if you do you will receive a good grade. His quizzes make up the tests. Going to office hours is a big help as he is very helpful. Would highly recommend taking him

Mark Smith (as he refers to himself as frequently) is not a very good teacher. He teaches right from the book, which would be ok if he used a book that was worth looking at. The book is very unclear and gives hoorible examples. Then, it continually refers to the examples used in chapter 1 so you have to keep going back. good luck

Did not like his class. He moves fast, doesn't explain material enough, and gives out pretty difficult quizzes. I would not recommend him at all for discreet math. However, if you study your brains out and devote almost all your time to his class, you probably will do well. It is a LOT though, so be prepared.

One of the most awesome prof ever! He made math fun, implementing all kinds of examples and analogies. He also is super funny which makes attending class okay. Extremely helpful during office hour, explaining every little steps. Fair grade and also try to understand students with different situations.

Never miss his class. He is such a kind man and a true friend in daily life. Look at those who gave him a low grade. They all complained at early March or early Nov., exactly missing the deadline to W drop. His class are well organized. Maybe we have a weekly online quiz, not hard and quite helpful. Whenever you have questions, just E-mail him.

A great lecturer. He has been very careful to take things slow as the course is a very challenging one. He pays a lot of attention to the details, and really seems to try to make sure everybody is following what's going on.

I had Mark for Calc 1 in '06. Most of the business majors suck at Calculus, and blamed him for it. But the truth is that Mark Smith is one of the best professors... not just in the math department but in the whole University. Very accessible. You really have to just take some time to talk to this guy. He's fantastic, and great to go to for advice.

Pretty much as long as you attend class and do the homework you will be fine with this teacher. All of his exams and quizzes come from and/or based off of the homework. He does go off on random tangents when lecturing and he can be a tough grader at times, but not so bad that its impossible to get a prefect score anything.

Smith is difficult to follow in his lectures. Though his office hours were okay, the class was so large that it was difficult to meet with him one-on-one. Tests and quizzes were very challenging, and he's a tough grader. Avoid.

Not a bad professor, cares about students and had good office hours. He was usually late and he moved rather quickly. He's a prick with grades - I felt that he set out to screw me over. Hard to approach because of his tenure and large class size (100 students). I'd still steer clear; there are other, better, options for Calc 151.

Not the easiest professor in the world, but he will explain and answer any questions you may have. He's the head of the math dept. but that doesn't mean he is extremely tough. The class will be a challenge if you are not the best at math like myself. Quizes every week and a few tests. The final was easy as long as you studied.

Mostly teaches at Hamilton now I think. HW not graded but have a quiz every week. Tests are fairly similar to quizes and homework. Can be confusing when he starts getting wound up and talking/writing fast.

I had him for calc 1 my freshman year, i think he disliked the class altogether and didn't really help students...VERY BORING...his teaching style was horrible and whatever we went over in class was not on the quizes so I did horrible...most people were thankful to get out with a C, maybe B
