Okay, his tests are from his notes packet/what he says in class so GO! Also 1/3 of his tests are diagrams from his notes made into matching an empty space with the word that goes there. Lab is tough, memorize all the rocks! If you can pass lab you can get a good grade in the class. Interesting fellow, but not good at answering q's. Avg. B class

Dr. S. is an interesting man. Class was very stressful at first but as I got used to his style it got easier. He gives you old tests to review. He grades the tests competitively. Lab was a pain, and can impact the grade a lot, so make sure you do your work.

TERRIBLE!! Don't get up to go to restroom or blow your nose...He will call you out and mark you absent/ask you to leave the room. Don't text or he will throw you out. Says its distracting though his stopping class is much worse. Tests are hard be sure to work examples. Not helpful. TA was good though. Lab was terrible! Made a B

He's nice, but very hard. Not the easy class the academic advisors made it seem to be. It would be easier if he would give his PowerPoint presentations out. He doesn't. He thinks someone will sell them. I wouldn't take him if you don't want to work harder than in other classes. Astronomy is better for non science majors in my opinion.

Intresting subject, but he just rambles on and makes it hard to focus/pay attention. He is VERY rude to his students and is VERY unwilling to help. I went to EVERY class, took GOOD notes (for Unotes), and studied 10-14 hours for each test and I still made low grades on the tests. If you take this class you're basically on your own. DONT TAKE!

I took Dr. S's physical class in Fall 04. It was GREAT! The class IS tough. GO TO CLASS, take notes, and STUDY. This IS college & YOUR education is YOUR responsibility. To 11/18/04 who b****ed about only having their test curved three points from a 50 to a 53- you can thank me for that, because I was the bada** who set the curve with a 97. SUCKA!

Dr. Steltenpohl is so great! Humorous, smart, a master brewer. And in the field, he is like a great Native American Chief who glides across all he surveys, soaking in the geology like a sponge.

He is a great guy! Not too boring. After reading all the comments before I took this class, I thought i was going to fail. Turned out to be not that hard. GO TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES! All his test are multi. choice. Understand the quiz material dont just memorize it. I would say that this class is a somewhat easy B and a tough A.

horrible professor. power point notes were very clear but none of it was on the tests. went to his office several times and my lab professor helped more than he did. Final exam was impossible along with all the other tests. AVOID THIS GUY!

My GTA told me he was the hardest geology professor here. I made an A in the lab but i failed all the tests in the class. For the jerk who said this is college yeah it is but you should be educated not be drownded in mental aguish by a man who is better over being told he was to easy once in his life. great teacher. for those of you who think he's too hard, maybe you shouldnt be taking science classes. stick w/ your intro to business & underwater basket weaving. put down the stereonet and back away slowly.
