Comment:
Worst professor I have ever had at Clemson. His homework is impossible and he assigns way too much. He is just plain awful at explaining. He goes really fast and shows just enough to scratch the surface, then expects you to be able to complete the impossible homework. He assigned us a graduate level book that was also impossible to understand.

He is very willing to help you in office hours, but he will probably make you feel dumb. He does that to everybody, so don't get discouraged, just keep asking questions and don't leave until he has helped. The homework is pretty ridiculous. This is a tough class, but he curves at the end so don't drop the class if you're borderline.

Awesome teacher, we cursed in Greek and German together throughout the semester. Super initiating in class and office hours, will try to lead you to the answer and try to aid you in order that you understand that material not just apply a process to solve; but if you are too dense, like I was once, he will just flat out re-explain it.

HW is impossible, and will take you at least 1hr per problem (4 per hw, hw every other class). Talks a million miles an hour in lecture and jumps around like crazy. He tries to trick and confuse you too. Office hours aren't much help since he does the same as in class. He's funny sometimes, thats his positive quality. Extremely difficult class.

Probably the hardest teacher at Clemson, but it's a nonissue because chemE's have to take him regardless. His hw is absurd. Get ready for a beating.

Very Hard. The class gets better after the first test though. I got a D on every test and still got a B somehow (My gpa is 3.8 currently). Also the homework is absolutely impossible. In a few cases literally.

Dr. Thies is an effective teacher, not because of what comes out of his lectures, but from his ridiculous homework. He gives homework from other textbooks that cover information never covered in class. If you spend the time necessary to figure out how to get it done, his tests will be pretty easy.

The class is difficult but he is really helpful. If you go by his office, he will be glad to help and it never hurts to have him know who you are. The tests are easier than the homework but the homework takes a significant amount of time. Be prepared to work and go to class! It helps.

He can be really frustrating, but overall he's a good teacher. His tests are difficult, so study all the notes. Also don't get upset if he makes you feel dumb when you go and talk to him, it's just part of his charm.

Well not that you have much choice my fellow CHE slaves...but if you work really hard and come to every class you can pass. Oh yeah plan on putting a host of hours into homework. Dont be afraid to ask him about HW he seems to encourage students to come by actually.

Thies does a very thorough job of teaching the material. The class is somewhat difficult but very reasonable if you put forth the effort. Show up to class with a good attitude and just be ready to work.
