Hershman was not that bad. She does talk a lot about herself but if you take notes and study you will do fine. The journal assignment is ridiculous and takes A LOT of time but if you start early, again you will be fine. You must show up to class b/c her exams are based almost solely on her lectures! Good luck!

Geez... If you can take this else where, TAKE IT ELSEWHERE!! This class is soo0o ridiculous. The class is mostly her talking about her professional experiences as a speech pathologist. Unfortunately, she's the only professor who teaches linguistics, which is a damn shame because she's a speech pathologist, not a linguist, who can't stop talking about herself. I was extremely disappointed with the class, and it's a wonder that my interest in linguistics hasn't waned. She talks and grades like a maniac too.

Sitting in her Ling. class is like being an audience member at the "Marsha Hershman Show". She's totally into amusing herself, and seems extremely needy because of it. Arrogant too. If class could participate more, we would've learned more. Her idea of learning is for students to regurgitate everything she says. Sorry, but that doesn't cut it..

She is the worst teacher that I have had at Rowan. She treats the students like children, and she is always in an awful mood. She speeds through her notes, yet we were always behind somehow. If you ask her to slow down, then she becomes offended and lashes out. The class consisted of a heavy workload, yet I don't feel like I learned anything!

She is energetic and very personable. I had to miss two weeks of class because I was in a play and she worked with me. We only had two speeches and a 25-30 minute debate as our final. She is hilarious and you'll enjoy all three hours each week. And YOU WILL BW IN CLASS FROM 6:30 until 9:01 pm. Dont EVER expect to get out early! STudy and you'll get

Easy A if you study just a little and can speak at all. There are very few formal speeches, so if you have stage fright she is a good professor for you. On the downside, the class is very boring. The lectures are more filler than substance.
