Comment:

Ok lecture isn't really necessary and reading the text isn't necessary but it helps ALOT. For lecture she is a little difficult to understand and her voice is almost like a lullaby you will want to fall asleep but push through it and right vigorous notes! For tests MEMORIZE art dates. Hard class but interesting.

She is so passionate about her art history and architecture. she has an adorable sense of humor and is fun to listen to during lectures if you give her a chance, very nice.

Don't get on this professor's bad side, even by accident. She can be vindictive. Thin skinned. Has power and knows how to use it. If you are a favorite, you'll be fine. Knows some of the material very well. Other, one gets the feeling she reads up on it the night before class. Rather insecure-- challenge her with care and at your peril.

Highly intelligent, knowledgeable, makes herself available to advise outside of office hours & over weekends. Though we had the freedom to pick final ppr topics, she has specific parameters & contradicting ideas about the end product. Can lack tact, plays favorites; she's the boss & she'll let you know it. Regardless, learned a lot & worth taking.

Frustrating! Can be demeaning & treats adults like they are in HS. Threw fits if you came 5 mins.late or spoke to your neighbor. pay attention and take notes, you'll be fine. 75% of readings were on reserve at the library and each reading could be up to 50 pages. It was ridiculous trying to share these readings with 35 people making copies of them

Lectures are long, boring and full of needed information (if you can stay awake or not playing internet games). Passing the class is not hard, but passing with a B or better is. Class is 60% memorization and 40% luck. Take good notes and go to discussion. Don't be afraid to switch TA's to find one you like, they will make a difference.

EXCELLENT professor, with a little getting used-to. Pollak is a wealth of information and is very enthusiastic toward her topic. I took Art History 111, and the class was challenging but Pollak's personality made up for it. If you have any interest in Art History whatsoever, take her class!

Way too much to read...most of it is on reserve at the library. About 80% of the class did not read the reserves, but just went off the information at the lectures. SHE IS REALLY STRICT WITH HER INFO! So if you are not 100% commited in class...just don't take it!

I took 2 classes with her and enjoyed both very much. Definitely learned a lot. She comes across as distant but is helpful and clearly very knowledgable. If you like a bit of a challenge and like reading, I recommend taking her class.

Took 4 classes w/Martha & an oversees trip. Very articulate, very knowledgeable. Responds well to your ideas & rewards good work. She can come off as aloof, but if you approach her with respect & intelligence she's gracious and helpful. Always responds to email and returns phone calls. Trust me, she's a good person to have on your side!
