Harries is a phenomenal lecturer. This class is really small and discussion-driven, and although the readings are hard to keep up with he seems completely attuned to when he should ask a different question or move onto a different chapter. He's absolutely brilliant, and hilarious.

Good professor. knowledgeable and entertaining. lecture is usually interesting. attendance isn't taken for lecture, but probably is paid attention to for recitation. had a lot of issues with my TA, so make sure you try to get a good one. expectations for papers aren't too clear, so take advantage of talking to your TA or Harries for help.

Interesting teacher. Lots of reading. Lectures are tolerable. He leaves a lot of open-ended questions. Tests are pretty easy if you do the reading. TA helped me a lot throughout the course.

He's very smart and a good lecturer, albeit pretty monotone at times. I had no interest in the class, but he made it bearable. There's a LOT of reading but you don't really have to have it done for lecture. The TAs do all the grading and are really helpful and willing to discuss your work with you help you write better.

This professor is really interesting and knowledgeable. He is so willing to help students and have them interact with the course which has made it one of my favorite classes. He does go on tangents sometimes, but they're usually related to the topic and actually entertaining.

Very intelligent, great dry-ish sense of humour, great lecturer who brings in really interesting tangential materials. Also, fairly lenient about late work/reasonable in emails.

Had to read a different play for each class. The plays were great and he's a nice guy, but his lectures were completely off topic and had nothing to do with the readings...I felt screwed for the papers and final. Also, he never responded to e-mails.

HE is incredibly intelligent and he makes lectures soo fun. he brings up points in the material that you never thought of and he has a genuine interest in what you have to say..the papers were graded by a TA, but i never missed a lecture...highly recommended

Colloq: Shakespeare -- His lectures were interesting, but he never spoke for long because we were always engaged in discussion. The class mix was almost perfect and we had great discussions. This is not a class to try to fake, you will need to read the plays and think about them, but it's very rewarding. Lenient with extensions but not grading.

the thing that annoyed me about his class were the random tangents and jokes he made which he thought were charming...they weren't really that funny and didn't enhance the material. the course readings are pretty great, but don't look to be enlightened by his lectures...they are all over the place. i feel that i didn't get my money's worth.

Harries lectures are incredible! He brings what feels like a new epiphany to every lecture, and his wit is unrivaled. The minutes fly by, and he reminds you why you love literature and the theatre. Nearly the full class came to every session.
