Very difficult to work with. If you need a class/studio with a lot of free reign in topic of his interest I think he could be a good fit. But he can be incredibly convoluted and at time confrontational in putting you on the spot in front of class. Be strong willed to take him on. Having said that, he's very intelligent and can be inspiring.

At 1st his approach seemed useful, & he challenged me to "disregard the rules & think for myself." That led me interesting places. But then he punished me using the same syllabus deliverables he explicitly told me to ignore. He always has to posture that he's a step ahead of you & will come after you if you damage the fantasy. AVOID IF POSSIBLE

It was extremely frustrating to have him as a professor. Constantly felt snobbed by his comments - he refused to answer questions and failed to inspire inquiry throughout the Studio course. Extremely knowledgeable, without a doubt. But that alone does not make for a good professor.

Possibly the best person I've studied under. He's so frustrating and obtuse at times, but you don't "get it" until well after his studio. He really gives you no clear answers. but the sooner you realize sometimes there are no clear answers, the sooner you'll stop accepting someone else's and come up with your own.

One of the best professors I've had at UBC. Encouraging students to think for themselves, be curious and not just fulfill the requirements of the course. He will only teach you as much as you want to learn.
