When you want something more clarified he usually never answer the question you ask. He also goes of on some tangents about how he programs and how you should be able to program exactly like him.

After looking up Prof. Osborne here I was prepared for the worst. So I was quite surprised to find that he's my favorite CS professor I've had so far. He's very helpful, interested in helping us learn, and has been very accommodating. His sense of humor's a bit odd, but who cares? I think he's a great teacher, highly recommended.

Comment:
Osborne is intentionally unhelpful in his office and class when people ask questions. Though lengthy, specifications are unclear and contradictory. Assignments attempt to relate the "real world" to incompatible CS concepts causing much confusion, which he's unwilling to clarify. You will learn more and perform better in another professor's class.

Martin Osbourne is awesome. He could probably kick everybody's ass who left negative comments here. He's like the Chuck Norris of WWU CS faculty. If you would just pay attention in class, you wouldn't utterly fail his assignments and tests.

If you have to take an Osborne class(of which if your a cs major you probably will) ask as little as possible in class he likes to answer questions during office hours. And while he's probably the worst cs teacher in the department he does not seem to be out to fail students so keep your head low and just stay focus

Martin could be the saltiest, bigeest Jerk i have ever taken. Teaches for a paycheck, not becuase he likes it or cares. Aviod at all costs, he should not be teaching at a fine university like WWU. He sucks!

Comment:
Avoid like the plague. Still moody, still a jerk and still fails to teach. 225 was supposed to be about presentations, yet he couldn't present his way out of a wet paper bag.<br> Used a 1950s grammar book and quizzes from it, which was entirely unhelpful. Called the entire class dumb because we couldn't pass archaic grammar quizzes regularly.

Comment:
This class was a decidedly negative experience. Grading was nebulous with minimal feedback and the standards kept changing. He decided that he needed to correct our grammar using poor grammar quizzes every week (20% of the grade). Although he may be better in a real CS class, do not take CS225 with Osborne.

It has been at least 10 years since I had Osborne and I have made a million buck since then but this jerk still leave a bad taste in my mouth. In thinking back, he got to be worst person ever, not just the worst pseudo teacher. I did get an A- from his class and I have no idea what I did - this guy can't explain anything clearly.

I don't see what is with all the hatred. You should be able to copy off your note sheet for the easy weekly quizzes. He expects a lot out of his students, and his programs are time consuming, but the grading is easy. Do the work and you will get an A.

Horrid instructor. Very unhelpful in office hours. Couldn't explain anything, and answers to questions were usually very unsatisfactory (when he actually answered that is...) The hard grading wouldn't bother me so much if he taught the material at all.

He's incapable of standing long enough to teach a class, let alone acually TEACH it. Not just a bad professor, but one of the worst 10 people I have ever met. He's unclear in what he wants from students, droning when explaining (not that he actually gets anywhere in his explanations,) and generally unpleasant all around.

... This guy is not very good. He doesn't answer your questions. He makes the class feel small half the time. Grading is harsh... he curved our class so that 3/4 wouldn't be failing. The curve took me from a "D+" to a "B". Big curve eh? I say avoid him if possible.

This guy... whoa, How did he manage to get this job and achieve tenure? He answered my question by saying "Is there any other questions I won't be answering today." And this was an important question at least to me. DO NOT TAKE THE OSBOT. You will regret it. He had to curve our entire class because everybody would have failed if he had not.

Has high expectations and grades hard. More clarity in homework (all programming) expectations would have been helpful. Used powerpoints when writing on the board would have been better. For the motivated student, I believe he is effective at teaching the course material.

I noticed this prof received a lot of bad comments, so I just wanted to mention that I had a fairly good experience with him in 211. I never met with him after class, but in class he seemed like a pretty pleasant guy, and he taught the subject fairly well.
