Comment:
I took a TON of Philosophy classes while at UPJ simply because Dr. Rice made the subject interesting. I graduated a while back (and went on to law school) and my philosophy background was extremely helpful for the LSATs and for critical thinking in law school. I want Dr. Rice to know just how big an influence he was on my thinking and education.

Rice was a good professor. You have weekly quizzes (every Friday) and they are usually around 20 points. You need to be in class because if you miss one, you will be confused. Make sure you study before the quizzes and memorize the charts. Overall a decent teacher.

Dr. Rice was awesome. At first, he seems scary, but he's actually really nice and wants students to do well. The first half of the semester was a little bit difficult, but after the first midterm, everything gets easier and more interesting. There is a lot of reading. I wish I needed to take more philosophy classes, just so I could have him again.

Fantastic Professor. Brilliant, made concepts very clear and backed my rational/logical thinking. Very helpful & caring. He expects students to read the material and participate, if you cant think for yourself take a math class not a philosophy class. Overall Great Professor, one of the best at UPJ.

I had Dr. Rice for Concepts of Human Nature. In all honesty, he seems like a nice guy, but I would not recommend him as a professor. I found him to be so consumed in his own opinions that he left little room for the thoughts of others. He also needlessly yelled. I definitely would recommend the course, but not the professor.

Had him for Philosophical problems. Good teacher, is very knowledgeable about his philosophy and most things relating. Has an abrasive personality that seems to rub some the wrong way. Quiz every ~3 classes. readings almost every class. IMO great class, I would recommend it.

You learn more than what you paid for. Would recommend everybody to take a class with him if interested in philosophical topics. lots of reading assignments, sometimes difficult to understand. quizzes and tests mostly short answer and essays on key topics in readings. encourages discussion on topics and really humorous guy. A little intimidating.

This guy is a great professor. Ive had him twice already and classes are a lot of fun and very informative. I dont understand his low rating; maybe these people expected to sign up for an easy A but thats what he is about. If you want to actually learn something, take a class with Dr. Rice

He is very intimidating. His quizzes are hard to study for because he usually assigns multiple chapters at a time which address multiple concepts in them. Had to drop this class to save my GPA. My friend who took the class as well said at the end there was less than half the class left. Would not recommend it!

It was kind of interesting but he ALWAYS make sure u know his point of view on the situation. He is def. a nut job, likes to yell things and tends to twitch which is hilarious and scary at the same time. His way of grading is HORRIBLE u must have perfect "syntax" even tho its not a writing enhanced course which is a bunch of BULL! Dont recommend.

Awesome class, awesome prof. He is demanding in the amount of reading assigned, but you just need to get the general concepts. He'll spend the whole class period explaining one point if that is what is needed for everyone to understand. Very sarcastic and very funny.

Loves the show "24", very conservative, speaks his mind, learned a lot though, mixed feelings, raters on here all have valid points about this one, can be rude and sarcastic, you have to be able to take it, nice when he wants to be, you gotta spell everything correctly on his tests, hard at first, but gets better if you "get it", I studied hours!

Dr. Rice is a very nice prof. Very passionate about Philosophy, that's for sure. Reading is emphasized, but it's not like you remember each and every line. If you get the point, you'll be good. Gives possibly easy quiz every week. If you wanna learn, take this class. You'll learn a lot (Given u attend every class.) To explain the points, he gi

Dr. Rice is intense but also very passionate. There is a quiz every week or every class if its a night class. The readings aren't incredibly long but they are designed to keep you on your toes. He genuinely cares that you learn and is very knowledgable about the material. Participate and work and you will come out of this class much smarter.
