Comment:
Dr. Zysmilich is definitely very knowledgeable. He gives very clear lectures. However, this class is very hard; and especially the two tests will be 80% of your grades. I guess because I'm not a science person, so my tests weren't that great. He uses clickers for extra credits, so go to class and do those extra credits. It will help your grades!

He is a really good professor. He doesn't take attendance and posts the lectures on blackboard but some parts are missing so you should go to class. I would also recommend going to class because he gives extra credit clicker questions. This class is easy if you pay attention and have experience in Chemistry from highschool.

He's a good lecturer who is knowledgeable about chemistry. Final grade is 20% lab grade, 80% exam grades (2 exams), and 10% extra credit. Exams are not cumulative and are fairly specific. Study well from his notes and you'll be fine. It's normal to get 60s/70s on the exams and end up with an A/B in the course due to EC and lab. No final exam.

Teaching wise, he's pretty average. You'll be in a 300 student lecture hall, so don't expect these profs. to care that much. He gives up to 10% on your final grade in extra credit w/ in-class clicker questions, but doesn't curve any exams. The final is optional and the chemistry content is like HS chem, but there's a large memorization load.

Solid choice for a general ed science class. This class is half high school level chem, half environmental science. I fee like I left understanding climate change a little better. He tries to make the class fun, which I appreciate as a non-science major. Midterm and final both 40%, lab 20%, and you can get up to 10% extra credit.

no hw, just two midterms and a lab section. probably your best bet for a non science major. lectures are extremely boring but if you pay attention and use the practice midterms to study its a decently easy A. As a person, I found him to be abrasive but it doesn't matter much in such a big class. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT IT GIVES U 10pts on final average

People complain about the class a lot, but it isn't that difficult. Up to 10% extra credit offered through the clicker questions. Can be answered on your phone, but the code was down for probably about a third of the lectures this semester, so get the clicker to be safe. Don't get the textbook, it's not needed at all.

Lab was easy. Lectures were boring. Wouldn't advise if you're not already good in chemistry already. Tests weren't as easy as everyone makes them seem.

Class is graded by a midterm, final, lab, and 10% extra credit. All you need to do is do the extra credit questions in class, study for the midterm/final a week in advance and you'll get an A. If you don't like straightforward tests with no homework then don't take the class, but if you can study for two weeks out of the semester, you'll get an A.

Prof. Z was awesome. He was such a great professor and will answer any questions you have. I'm taking another section of his class next semester because he was so great. Definitely do the extra credit and attend your lab- it really helps!!!

You may catch up with the lecture easily, but the hard part is the exam. He posts practice exam beforehand, but the way questions ask you in the exam is completely different from the practice questions. Don't expect that you would get above B without super (like super-super-super) hard work.

A chilly and unpleasant man. As a CCAS student, I was quite disappointed taking this class after taking Professor Kung's excellent and challening Intro to the Cosmos as my first science class. He reads the slides. That's about it. Tests are weighted very highly. He is aloof in his engagement with students.

Comment:
I agree with his other reviews on Chem 1112. Tests made up most of the grade and the averages were appallingly low. That said, it's odd that the spring semester class averages were only slightly higher than his summer class despite the summer class being so small. It's almost like he's purposefully aiming for certain averages.
